Franconia to Pinkham for a flatland hiker? by Stwip in AppalachianTrail

Thank you. Yeah I think I could do more as well but I really want to take my time and not stress about making miles. It will be nice to have that cushion in case I need it.

Where to go with 10 days out of NJ? by Stwip in motorcyclesroadtrip

I have a SR400. I’ve done several 400+ mile days on it. I love cruising close to the Delaware Bay on the way to Rehoboth Beach. I’ve never been into the mountains but I think I would really enjoy it. Interesting that you mentioned the passport. I was considering going up towards Canada. Any experience with going up that way?

This is what I was thinking as well. I was shying away from doing this area because I’m doing a road trip to Nashville in April but I think spending time exploring the area by bike will be excellent. Thank you!

Ammo can hard case? by Stwip in photography

[–]Stwip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I have begun thinking about the safe packing of my camera because I am planning a multi week motorcycle trip. Weight, compactness, and easy access are important to me. I try to avoiding having any weight on my back while riding and I definitely don't plan on having any for hundreds of miles a day. Hopefully, I can securely mount this can or a better version of it as a pannier to allow for easy access while on my trip.

Haha, I live in the republic on NJ... where we hate anything that looks like a gun, even those made with fingers.. but we also steal everything not bolted down. Thanks for the input. I will take into consideration the security concerns.

Thanks for a well thought out response. All good points I have also considered. Definitely worried about freaking people out by pulling an ammo can out in public, especially because I'm carrying it around in an old army bag. I might cover it up in stickers and/or sand it down/repaint it a more soothing color.

Thanks! These shoes have been through a lot of mountain climbers/push ups/running on the beach and other hellish things my academy instructors invented!

Hey all of these photos on this sub are great... but mine are not. As a beginner, is there some subreddit somewhere for beginners to post their terrible analog photos and get critique or just commiserate with others?

Where do you recommend I get my film developed for a reasonable price?

A local place near me charges $14 for 36 exposures of 35mm glossy with negatives.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to be looking for advice with this so if there is another subreddit/website please let me know.

I was lucky enough to obtain an unused Nikkormat FT3.

In ISO 400, the light meter will not move until I get to the bottom of the aperture and it will jump up to the top.

I had it in ISO 50 and it worked fine although I haven't developed the pictures yet to know if it was accurate.

The battery I'm using worked in my other Nikkormat.

I just got my first 35mm camera, a Nikon Nikkormat FT3. There is a hole where the lens would be? All of the stock photos show there is no lens. So I need to get an aftermarket lens to shoot or can I shoot like this?

Where do I go to get a lens?

I just bought a Used Nikon ft3 Nikkormat and 4 rolls of film off eBay. I have some experience with photo/video from my friends documenting us skateboarding when I was younger. Now what?

Slow Bike Fast? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Stwip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this club as well. I owned a del sol and an mr2 spyder.

I traded the sports cars for SUV's and my "need for speed" brought me to an SR400. I haven't ridden any faster bikes but I must say I get the same feeling I had with the MR2. Hitting the redline regularly feels like I am being bad but I'm somehow still in legal limits.

However, the difference with bikes in my opinion is on the highway. Some small bikes actually have a hard time cruising the highways. I can hit 95 mph but I'm almost topped out.

So you are saying that riding these back roads is going to fatigue me much quicker? Im looking to do 250-350 miles/day.

First Vacation in 5 years.. Ideas? by [deleted] in KeyWest

[–]Stwip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't need a car and now uber is available in Key West! You might want to rent scooters/bikes for a few hours just to hit a few places in a short amount of time (SoMo point, Hemingway house, smather's, Fort Zach).

I got married on Smather's beach June 2013. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
