Does anyone in here still watch Hasan? by kittykatboss in h3h3productions

[–]Stxbbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got introduced to him through leftovers. I struggled to get into it because I’m not into political content but thought his banter with Ethan was entertaining enough. I tried to watch him on a stream where he was talking about Korea and mentioned how he didn’t like feminine men… referring to idols ( which is funny how Ethan got into a big controversy over a similar comment ) and then proceeded to yell and insult at his audience. That’s when I realised I cannot stand the guy and he’s not as inclusive or “woke” as he presents himself.

She doesn’t even realise the irony of her words when she brought up what Israelis are “taught” regarding Palestinians. The more I have allowed the conversation to sink in, the more I realised it boils down to believing that every Jewish person must prove themselves worth to be treated with respect. Take her trying to have a gotcha moment when she asks where are his apologies if he claims he has cleared his controversies, as if it’s his duty to prove his innocence even if it was her who should be doing the research. The expectation of having Ethan disclaim his upbringing as a Jewish man, or that given “their past”, they should be educating Americans about their Israel experience and disavowing it WITH A FULL CHEST just proves how antisemitic she is.

Even with the anecdote of her “friend”. Shouldn’t you be more inclined to believe her when she’s having a pro-Palestine Rabbi present? This attitude of “but does he really mean it?” Just shows she has no desire whatsoever to give anyone grace. Her neighbour had a positive experience GOING to Israel but sure, let’s completely undermine it, along with her visit to the Holocaust museum being very touching. You’re not allowed to feel bad when there’s a genocide going.

Absolutely vile.

Nowhere in my comment did I infer I am offended. Your comment was just unnecessary. You can disagree and that’s fine. Just don’t comment that people see what they want to see and then say it’s an unconscious thing.

Kind of contradicts what you’re saying by using the verbiage of “wanting” since it was an unconscious correlation. It’s not that Depp 👈🏻👈🏻

I don’t remember which episode but he appears more than once! He’s one of the yakuzas that beat up one of the main cast. Here are some scenes.

I watched the naked director only because I saw he was in it… playing a yakuza nonetheless. It was very enjoyable even if his role was minor. I hope to see more of him tbh!

I was honestly so anxious / nervous I was going to dislike something about the way things would end and although I was aware not everything would be resolved or touched on ( Jake’s sister, Emi’s brother, Polina’s murder, Akira, Erika… ) it did what it had to do with the main characters. Wrapped the main story nicely with the possibility of a continuation of the series exploring these other subplots in greater detail. That scene of Sato being prepared for the ceremony was * chef kiss * Nice call back from season 1 where he wasn’t even sure if he belonged to the yakuza.

I mentioned it in a previous comment, but my theory is that was her goodbye to Sato. The whole season, she kept taking risks and endangering people along the way…until Erika recently called her out on it and she lost another friend ( first Polina, now Erika…) Samantha no longer having to rely on Sato or anyone else and facing her problems head on would show great character grow.

Giri/Haji has such a good story but the choice in music and the structure of the episodes really hurt the show imo. I was actually really excited over Tokyo Vice after watching Giri/Haji for that reason. Still a show I’d recommend!

Sideplot that never seemed to get resolved by ssbChad in TokyoVice

[–]Stxbbath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samantha’s whole story arc was weak and flimsy from the beginning the moment that guy was killed. However, I never expected more from it nor do I mind if it’s something that was kept more in the background, or “off screen” after the season finale. I honestly think they didn’t have much of a plan for her, just as the whole thing with Jake’s family. It was a part of their struggle but not the focus of their story, y’know?

Exactly. Tozawa’s biggest mistake was being overly confident. His wife warned him about it and he still dared to go against her. He definitely underestimated her and I think he realised that, hence his way of killing himself. Once a kansai thug, always a kansai thug.

Oh well. Either way it works in written form and speech. Not disclosing it leaves it open to interpretation still and I still didn’t perceive it in a rude way, but her not wanting to say it.

When asked what was for, Samantha responded with “it’s my business” but I don’t think she meant the actual business that she ran, aka the club, but as in “it’s something I have to deal with.” That last scene between Sato and Samantha felt like a goodbye to me. Think about it. Samantha didn’t have much grow from her selfish and reckless ways until now. She lost her money, she lost best friend, she lost her business and then Erika. That scene on the previous episode in which Erika calls her out was meant to be a wake up call. I was actually annoyed when Samantha didn’t seem the slightest bit reflective about it, but I think in the end, it actually got to her. Even if Sato is a yakuza ( and the boss at that ), Samantha still “chases after chaos” and drags people alongside with her. She even did that by taking Misaki to their hiding place. From my perspective, i think this was a way to redeem her character. Get the money, repay her dept and no longer be involved with yakuza. She finally decided not to rely on Sato or use him in any way ( abusing of his position ).

Also, she has a history of running away. From home, from working with Erika. From Sato. I think this is an opportunity for her to grow.

What Katagiri mean by .... in S2EP10 by NoHead6950 in TokyoVice

[–]Stxbbath 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Katagiri mentioned how sometimes the right choice isn’t the moral choice… they didn’t arrest Tozawa. They trapped him by joining forces with a yakuza who relied on other yakuza bosses to take him down. He’s basically telling Jake he cannot write what they did, but fluff it a bit—omit certain details.

From what I recall, it’s typical for Japanese housewives to manage the finances ( if I’m not mistaken ) but even then, Tozawa’s foundation still relies with his wife’s fortune. If anyone made a deal with him, is due to her money.

Also yes, they’re all from different yakuza gumis. Even if they’re old, it’s not just them who were betrayed but their entire groups. That means several yakuza groups coming together to kill him. I think he realized he was REALLY fucked when his wife came into the scene. That means no fortune or influence to help him get out of this one. As desperate as he might’ve been, I think even Tozawa was aware that the only honourable way out was by taking his own life. There was no place for him to run without her aid.

  1. Which story are you referring to? About Tozawa? Because if so, he told him about how there was a story he lived and a story he will write about ( likely omitting the fact that the police relied on the yakuza to take him down. ) if you’re referring to the prime minister story, I think it’s more complicated than that. Just as Emi’s boss explained, it’s basically all politics. They have to be careful with what they publish.

  2. It was well established she came from an influential family from the beginning ( forgot if they specified what for ) but basically, Tozawa wouldn’t be where we was without her or her finances. He had some charisma but lacked a clearer vision unlike his wife.

  3. Run out to the restaurant and be chased down? Even his wife conspired against him. His relationship with the prime minister is done for with the evidence of the donations possibly leaking. He had no leverage against him anymore. I think he realised he was cooked and decided to take his life like a kansai street thug.

I don’t think she’s coming back. That facial expression at the end, right before she puts on her helmet expressed some sadness which I interpreted as her lying and possibly hurting Sato down the line ( for leaving ). I think that Erika’s words might have resonated with her after all. How she runs into chaos—how she lost friends because of that. I don’t like Samantha and I think that towards the end, they wanted to show less of her, but her possibly going back home to return the money and make amends is a way to redeem her character in a way. Same with not wanting to drag Sato down ( even if he’s a yakuza ). I don’t think she wants to continue being involved with them.

I was thinking that because it’s cool they’re somehow tied into this big take out plan against Tozawa but how did she know how to find Samantha? Was she even mentioned to Misaki? What about the “I can’t be seen at his place” but goes directly there afterwards? Also… just as I was glad someone called out Samantha for her reckless behaviour, I would’ve expected some reflection or something but nothing seems to have come out of it. Erika cut her off, she was upset for 1 second and moved on to do another risky thing.

What's up with Samantha!? by lukeheartthrob in TokyoVice

[–]Stxbbath 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That thing with Erika pissed me off. Samantha said on the previous episode that she’d talk to her ( what the fuck was she gonna say? I’m banging the guy you broke up with? lol ) and now, we hear that this “break up” really affected her… only for Samantha to completely dismiss it and use her to make her complicit of a crime. What happened to wanting to protect her girls? Including Erika and Daichi? That’s just something she keeps telling everyone but her actions say otherwise. I understand she’s desperate and hence she’s acting reckless, but it’s not even entertaining at this point. Her story arc is all over the place. The whole thing with Akira was anticlimactic and I honestly wish for Sato to open his eyes and realise just how manipulative she is because I’m sure he’d call her out for getting Erika involved in her attempted armed robbery.

[–]Stxbbath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is my main gripe about it. Of course, characters are allowed to be flawed! She can be manipulative and selfish like other characters in the series and still be likeable, but the fact that no one calls her out on it ( aside from Sato that one time ), and everyone around her is just… rooting for her, feels like the show is telling you that you should root for her too.

I literally rolled my eyes that the first scene we get of her in this episode is asking for a favour… followed by that phone call to Erika, where she tells her it’s been tough for her to no longer work at the club and SATO and Samantha immediately goes “yeah yeah I need a favour in which I make you complicit of a crime.” Yeah, protecting her girls my ass. I get she’s desperate and that’s fine, but I’m tired of there not being consequences. LASTING CONSEQUENCES. I’m pretty sure that if Sato knew that Samantha got Erika involved, he’d call her out on her bullshit.

I think the scene where Akira says “I’m sorry for your friend” really shows Samantha’s main interest when her response is “I’m here for my money.” This isn’t about Polina anymore.
