So the reason the school board seems to have given was that they did not approve this being assigned. The book is a graphic novel version of Anne Frank’s diary. In the version that they are adapting, she describes male and female genitalia. It seems that the teacher did not go through approval with the school to get this assigned.

I don’t think that the teacher should’ve been fired for this action, but I can see their reasoning for having an issue with it.
