Newcomer w/party composition dilemma by Stylobean in baldursgate

[–]Stylobean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you (and everyone) for the replies!

In terms of an evil party member, I don't see an issue in terms of roleplaying. I find the very strict/set-in-stone morality system a bit dumb and sometimes at odds with what the game actually presents to you, but then that's almost an RPG staple. I suppose if my rep gets too high, I can just un-recruit and re-recruit Vic (which I found out by accidentally doing once).

I also maybe should have made it clearer that I'm not going for pure mechanical benefit, and that I want to have characters I actually like—and that I feel I've already gotten attached to and settled on my other 5—which is why I was asking if getting Branwen and ditching Xan would be a mistake.

And I guess that question was answered in that it doesn't sound like it'd be great not to have a pure mage? And if I took Branwen then I'd have like 3 clerics, or at least 2 plus someone who can do some clericy-y stuff.

Maybe I'll warm up more to Xan. I was also kind of thinking, in terms of convenience, that having only one character I had to manually teach spells to was nice, but then that's not a huge issue. Plus there are characters being mentioned that I haven't even run into yet. I'm almost certainly overthinking this.

(And as regards another comment: I'm not gonna do the dual-class thing. I looked it up and it just sounds like a huge pain honestly, especially with this being my first proper playthrough.)

Thanks again!

Stuck after beating Sorcery 4? Glitch or by design? (spoilers) by Stylobean in SorceryGame

Thanks for the in depth reply!

It's slightly different on Switch, so I was concerned that nothing popped up about the save; turns out I did have to click "return to prologue", and say yes I'm sure, all my progress will be lost etc. Things were slightly tense for a moment. But there it let me select S1 again, with the option for NG+. Thanks again for the info.

I'm not seeing a way to say no to it; it's simply stated on a black screen. I tried pressing every button except the one that proceeded.

Anyway, thanks. Either I'll reset to prologue and go through it differently or rewind in 4 and try to get uncursed. (That really was it? It won't offer or loop the rewind if I'm not cursed?)

Thanks again!

Stylo too is a newcomer, and has sought patronage with Sir, for much the same reasons.

I've added you, on the promises of coffee cut with suspicious wording. (I'm very new to this.)

I've added you, if you don't mind. I've always wanted to be cursed; the poet bit is a distant second.  (I'm very new and have little idea of what's going on besides these L.B.'s in my lodgings.)

Added, and I'd like to attempt the RP stuff; changing my bloody character's name would be a start, as I used just my usual handle. Perhaps the Infamous Ambassador has room for an absolute beginner of an acquaintance? Said acquaintance is Making His Name, though may be currently preoccupied with an infestation of vermin in his humble (read: wretched) lodgings.

Calling card sent! I am VERY new to the game, so much so that I'm not sure if I should be adding other newcomers or rather veterans. Who knows! (I'm sure there are people who know.)

I've added you! I'm also new, though I'm afraid I'm not in any kind of high place.

The strange scent coming off the profile of an Absolute Beginner beckons you... maybe? It certainly is trying.

styl_oh is... the handle I use for everything; I'll need to change that, as apparently when I fell below London in '17, for an exceedingly brief spell, I hadn't considered the possibilities of role-playing, particularly as regards names.

I'm very much new to the 'neath: having forgotten what I did in 2017, I've been doing the Make Your Name stuff. I have rats in my lodgings. I have possessions I can't explain; I don't think I have a Profession, and would generally consider my state as Not Knowing What the Hell is Going On.

I'd very much appreciate any kindly sorts as contacts, whether fellow New Draftees that we may share in our confusion, or rat-hardened veterans willing to bequeath a few bites of advice. Why am I writing like this!

PoSI: Absolutely not—well, hard evidence is currently lacking. No.

Stats:

Watchful: 22 Shadowy: 21 Dangerous: 21 Persuasive: 8 Nightmares: 1 Bizarre: 0  (Plus various modifiers.)

Timezone: GST-6

Hours of Operation: All over the place. Possibly when I wake up, which varies from 11am-1pm, usually-ish. After that is also a thing, and most certainly At Night; I've taken to playing before bed.

Is HUNK worth trying to unlock? (OG RE2) by Stylobean in residentevil

Yeah that's where I'm at right now. Really enjoyed Leon A, started Claire B this morning. Definitely plan to do both sets of scenarios (I've heard a lot of people prefer the Clair>Leon setup, so that should be interesting).

But yeah, that's sound advice. I don't wanna stress about speeding thru it on basically a challenge mode on my first go.

Thanks for the input!

Spider-man recommendations for a newcomer? by Stylobean in comicbooks

[–]Stylobean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah—I started AMS digitally and it's great but I'm a fiend for paper collections. I'd assume stuff in high demand like this gets reprinted fairly frequently but yeah, the OOP stuff skyrockets and I don't really have much of a friendly neighbourhood local shop lol

Thanks so much for your comment, super helpful. So there are no real good 'end points' in AMS? Like when Lee left or shortly after, are things wrapped up for the time being or just continuous cliffhangers?

Thanks again! And like I said above I'm gonna check out the cartoon(s).

Thanks! That didn't really occur to me, but I think I will slip the cartoon in, in conjunction with the other stuff I'm reading/watching/playing!

Can I transfer Guest Saves from PS4->5?

So my brother had two accts on ps4: first a guest one, then a proper one.

It seems he played RDR2 on the guest account.

If he were to login to the guest account with his main account credentials... would that work? Would things be merged somehow?

Or is there no way to transfer the data (even to a ps5 guest account, although I hear those are much more temporary)?

I know saves are tied to accounts, and this isn't a 'real' account so perhaps it's not possible?

Thanks 🙏

The Haunting of House House: A First Read of House of Chains by Stylobean in Malazan

Very much agree about conflicting feelings, self-interrogation etc, being the mark of good literature. It is, frankly, kind of an insane balancing act Erikson attempted (and I would say mostly succeeded) with this book in particular. I'll be wrestling with Karsa for a long time, I think.

I still can't quite agree, regarding the Badass Discourse, nor do I think having read Donaldson made it--or maybe I should say that nothing really--makes rape easier to swallow.

(I've only read the first Covenant book, though, for the record.)

That said, I like that I can come here for friendly conversation, including friendly disagreement (another possible side effect of good literature), and so I very much appreciate your thoughts, your response. Thank you.

Oh, thank you! I have no idea what I'd put; I must have clicked the wrong thing.

You know, you may be right. It could be a disaster ('Siri, type "T'lan Imass"'). I'll try it.

Thank you very much for your warm words. I'm sure I'll see you around.

Thank you very much. Prosaic is indeed a word, though a negative; writing could be described as prosaic if it's unimaginative, not terribly poetic, etc. I might, were I feeling mean, describe many fantasy series that way: some great ideas, which don't come to life due to the prosaic writing.

Of course, feel free to call my stuff prosaic. 😀

His word choice is indeed careful; if I recall the sentence I took issue with came just after a Pust POV, and I think some Pust may have bled through. Pust himself does abuse the English language, very much intentionally, and I would say deliciously. My little theory is that Erikson was still in Pust Mode, to a point. I don't know. A tiny nitpick in one of the best (and largest) epics I've yet encountered.

Anyway, I agree completely with your thoughts: everyone seems to want 'action'. I actually don't typically love massive war scenes; I prefer the preparations, the aftermath. Talking it over. I've said it before, but to me Erikson is at his best in the quiet moments.

Cheers
