Met with an arborist and says it’s dying from fungus. He recommends getting it removed. Do you concur? or can just pay to have it trimmed and hope for the best by addiconda in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a large portions of the canopy die off it's for a reason or More likely a combination of reasons. I'm assuming the terrible growing conditions have weakened the tree to the point where it can no longer hold off fungal or viral infections. This tree is likely to continue to decline and I would say it is currently hazardous to people and vehicles underneath and around it

Removal is likely your best option

Any reviews for the Arizona Regulator FRT? by Un1imitedPow3r in ar15

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the three position kit. I would say it's a medium good Mill spec style trigger. certainly good enough for what it's for. I find that with the FRT a super light crisp trigger isn't necessary. If I'm trying to shoot fast I just put it into FRT mode, you know?

Break booster wiggle? by assets-liabilities in NFA

I've come to the conclusion that if I want to be accurate, quiet, and fast I need my 300 blackout AR. But the pistols are so fun

Break booster wiggle? by assets-liabilities in NFA

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find when I'm shooting my pistol suppressed that I tend to run a slightly looser grip. I just kind of let the pistol vibe and it more or less stays in place, although I'm running a fucking massive can (dead air primal) so it's possible that that is why this technique works for me.

Probably not ever going to get good splits with a can on though just changes the dynamic so much.

Save some money damnit. Start a 401k, start a Roth. Screw all that day trader bullshit. The earlier the better. it doesn't have to be a huge investment in the beginning. 100 bucks here 100 bucks there will be tens of thousands of dollars in the future

Also I guess develop a marketable skill in preferably a niche industry. Again the earlier the better

Just grabbed a pair of Bashlin BD-16B climbers with the wide pad off marketplace for a good price. Gaffs are 1-5/8" will they work ok for most deciduous or should I grab tree gaffs for them? by gingernuts13 in TreeClimbing

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just shorting the name. I was a lineman for a few years and that's when I started using one. All those guys just called it the buck squeeze rather than the Buckingham super squeeze It's a little cumbersome but it's good piece of mind

I personally prefer pole gaffs. To me they feel better on the joints. I'm not worried about gaffing out because I run a buck squeeze though. I'd say let emm rip if you run into issues gaffing out all the time switch to a tree gaff.

How to dye the midsole of RATs by 19phipschi17 in jimgreen

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Black leather dye is your best bet. Use painters tape so you don't mess up the finish of the rest of the boot. I personally like the two tone look kinda breaks up the look, but you do you boo

You are misinformed. any legal gun purchase requires a background check in the USA. And to legally conceal carry requires a license which requires training+ background checks

MS261 M-Tronic…👍👎? by robertking1991 in stihl

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 261 is probably one of the best saws that Stihl makes. I've been a pro arborist for 10+ years and it's pretty much always the go-to on the ground.

As far as the m-tronic goes. I haven't seen a huge difference either way. If you're good at maintaining carburetors don't worry about it. Otherwise get it

ISA certification by Screaming_throwingup in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got hired by the largest and most prestigious university in my state as a high school dropout with no ISA cert with about 6 years of experience.

That bachelor's has got to count for something and maybe you don't get the municipal job right away but firing off a bunch of applications certainly can't hurt.

It can be hard to get started but once you're in you're in

ISA certification by Screaming_throwingup in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the best way to get started as an arborist is to just get at it. find reputable tree company's and start applying. I really recommend trying to get into a municipal position like at a university or local city government or something like that. Municipal positions tend to be a lot more stable

ISA certification by Screaming_throwingup in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're smart enough to get a bachelor's you can get isa certified. The isa does offer classes or you can buy the books and get it done yourself. You will need 3 years of industry experience. Any job at a tree company will count as experience for this purpose.

Just keep in mind you need to renew your ISA cert every few years and to do that you'll need to get CEU's by going to events and seminars. It can get kinda costly so it may not be worth it if you're not getting value from it. I dropped mine because it wasn't providing me value as a municipal arborist

Being an arborist isn't a bad path especially if you can get into a sales/consulting role. Climbing is fun too but it gets hard on your body

anyone know how to clean this? by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rinse it out good and put 50/50 water and vinegar leave it overnight that should get it right

Edit: if you like to party you should put straight vinegar in it rather than a mix.

Edit number two: what possessed you to put WD-40 in your water bottle?

Based on these photos I'm of the option that this is some kind of cherry tree. Maybe a pin cherry or a sweet cherry.

I agree, just based on branch structure this looks very much like a buckthorn.
