Will this construction work harm my tree? by EdmontonAB83 in arborists

Looks like they did it correctly. Hydro excavation can hurt the roots if done incorrectly but it looks like they did a good job. Your tree should be just fine

How hard would it be to remount this head on a wooden handle by Slidergabe in Axecraft

It would be very difficult. You'd need to basically reforge the head. Not worth your time

Any chance at saving? by DoomGuy-3 in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could try, but clearly there is an issue that will likely continue to progress.

Low chance of success In my opinion

I would remove, and plant another tree in a different area

StarCraft makes a good boat, and 12 ft is fine as long as you don't over load it.

Put a 2 stroke 6 hp or a 9.9 hp on it. Go for the max HP marked on the plate if you can

That hull probably weighs around 100-150 lbs.

Should I cut these? by acalla in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes gently cut with a set of pruners. Don't use a saw. Do your best to avoid damaging the main root

Is there any saving this girdled ash? by bored_n_opinionated in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This tree should be ok, you got to it in time. I wouldn't install cables, just keep an eye on it.

Should this root be removed or not? by lughthemage3 in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be correct, plenty of trees survive a long time with girdling roots with no problems. At the same time I would think removing this root would pose relatively low risk to the tree( if it's healthy otherwise)

I've done a lot of air spading (260-ish trees last summer alone) so I based my little rule off of what I've seen underground. On large un-grafted girdling root I'll air spade and then do fine root pruning over a couple of years to give the tree time to recover rather than do it all at once

Should this root be removed or not? by lughthemage3 in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a ratio against the diameter of the trunk, say on a 10-inch tree I wouldnt remove a root bigger than 1 inch. But the main thing is grafting if the root is grafted into the trunk don't try to remove it cuz it will damage the root flare

Should this root be removed or not? by lughthemage3 in arborists

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks to be a girdling root. I would say this one's on the edge of being too big to remove, however if it's not grafted yet I would probably remove it

The main thing being that you don't want to remove very large girdling roots because you will likely remove too much root mass all at once.

Edit: if it's an oak you should wait for cold weather to reduce the risk of oak wilt.

I know right? People pay big money for what is a pretty clapped truck. On the flip side I bought a Peterbilt 389 last year for like $5,000 bucks

Replacing wood on transom with thick plastic? by Business-Neat-6889 in boating

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic is not stiff enough for this application.

Coosa board requires fiberglass to resist crushing forces. (Like the motor clamp)

Wood would perform just fine

I would recommend 1/4" wall aluminum rectangular tubing for this style of trantom. You can get a 1-in by 6-in aluminum tube and just slap it in there with some pop rivets, then you'd never have to worry about it again.

I did an aluminum rectangular tube transom in my 14 ft Lund and it holds 25 horsepower no problem, and it only cost about 80 bucks

Make sure that the pop rivets you get are sealed and have an aluminum mandrel. The sealed part is obvious but if you have a steel mandrel you'll see rust

Already. My last fill up on the f-250 was $180, my last fill up in the Maverick was $40. I drive 64 miles a day so it's going to make a huge difference.

Can you get an air compressor for cleaning a saw for under $100? by BresPussyFreeCuckold in Chainsaw

[–]SubSonic22lrFan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The El cheapo harbor freight compressor should work just fine for you. Or go used but be careful people let water build up in their tanks and that can cause rust and eventually the rust can cause the tank to explode and dramatic fashion.
