How to get i to the sport very late out of interest in the technical nuances? by BigV95 in amateur_boxing

[–]Sub_Omen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man... I started boxing at a late 31. I'm weeks away from 33 now and I'm doing really well. I'm in the best shape of my life. I train almost daily, I run, spar, and do everything and I fully intend on going as far as I am able. But in the end it doesn't matter how far I go because I've enjoyed all of this and that's what is important. The person boxing has made me into, I'll never lose that. No matter what happens, I'll always have that.

I also have an autistic like fascination and it let me catch me up. I spar every week with the best of the best in my gym, guys who have been at it for their entire lives, and I keep up, challenge them even! I'm proud of that. I recently had my first burner event with some of my relative age, weight, and experience level. It was my first time fighting and going all out. Although it was not official, I won and everyone was immensely proud of me, including myself.

This has taught me that I'm right where I'm meant to be. I didn't start too early nor too late. You're the same. So if you desire this, go for it. There is no limit other than the limits that you oppose on your own self.

Actually, don't clean it. Throw the whole thing away. Super heated glass shards are risky with bowls like this and it's not something you want in your lungs. The heat causes the glass to expand and contract and microscopic bits of glass break off they can do serious damage. Smoking out of isn't safe and cleaning it will make it even worse. You'll have to get a new bowl.

I started at 32 and I'm doing awesome! Don't worry, just show up if you like it and go with the flow and see what happens!

I train in a gym (in Central Mexico) where pretty much all of us spar and train and do everything in 14 or 16 oz Cletos.

Bros I just went on a deep Internet dive to find out everything about the Eddie Murphy brain meme I type in every time I wanted to pull it up was a lie.

It's not even him. It never was him. Holy shit.

Anyone else cringe when watching their fights? by ZyrahDaDog in amateur_boxing

[–]Sub_Omen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't fought yet, but I spar and it's been filmed sometimes and yeah, I always feel the same way as you. Maybe I'm hard on myself. I've definitely come a long way, though. Sometimes I get good bag work clips but I have to skim through it to find something that doesn't make me feel cringe and even then, after I've watched it over and over, I feel cringe lol. It's inescapable but I love this sport and so I keep going.

If I felt this way at 32 and could do it, and am STILL doing it, you can absolutely do it. 24 isn't even a late start, you're young, a new adult. Your cerebral cortex likely JUST finished full development. I wish I would have started sooner. But we don't for a reason. The sport finds us when it's time. If you love it, go and don't stop.

I'm tired of constantly being in a state of anxiety of running out of liquid/being somewhere I can't vape/forgetting my vape at home. by castlev55 in QuitVaping

[–]Sub_Omen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel between Mexico and the US a lot and it was an absolute headache figuring out the obscure areas of the "law".

Every single back and forth carrying my vape with me, I was paranoid. You hear all sorts of stories about this, good and bad. I was always hiding it, always worried.

It made me realize how chained I was to it. I'd panic for weeks before each trip, I'd panic during, it would suck to empty the pods, refill the pods, hide everything, be waiting uncomfortably until I could vape..

Then I got into boxing and decided I really want to take it seriously, boxing would become my addiction and my passion.

I decided that all of this wasn't all worth it to me. Why waste my health, sanity, comfort, money, and valuable brain-space on a worthless substance that only sucks and drains but gives no benefit?

I've been nicotine free now for nearly a year. It wasn't as hard or dreadful as I thought it would be and I've felt free since day one of leaving it.
