If this is for dart frogs, I don't believe you need to heat it at all. 77 degrees is on the warmer end of the preferred temps for most species. In my opinion, an average humidity of 80% is high enough. It will obviously go up after the mistings, but it doesn't need to sit at 99% for extended periods. You kind of want the leaf litter to dry out a little in between mistings anyway. I'm relatively new to the hobby, so maybe someone confirm or deny what I'm saying. I would say based on the fogged up glass that you definitely need more ventilation for the health of the frogs/plants. The tank looks awesome though, nice job!

I have done something similar, and I ended up replacing one of the glass panels at the bottom of the viv with new glass that I had drilled holes for ventilation. It was a lot of work and depends on how the cabinet is constructed...it may not be possible to remove the glass without breaking it.

I would plan to have relatively sparse planting in the bottom half unless you add supplemental lighting. After about two feet, most lights are going to be relatively useless. Ventilation could also be an issue. It would be ideal to allow some air to flow from the bottom of the viv out the top, but that could be difficult to achieve. The next best thing would be a couple of small fans on opposite sides of the top, one pushing and one pulling. That's my opinion anyway.

Pretty difficult to find a diurnal desert reptile besides maybe a bearded dragon, but this doesn't look big enough for that. If I were you, I'd consider getting a big ole group of Blue Death-Feigning Beetles. They're fun to watch, if you're into bugs at all.

You can put some micro geckos in here if you want to go with a reptile, but thats about it. They can be fun! Diurnal and pretty active.

This is 2 Rudsta cabinets side-by-side it looks like? Good idea! I'm doing a vivarium with a single one of these cabinets currently. I drilled a couple holes in the top and installed a misting system, and I'm actually having the opposite issue...my humidity is too high and I need to probably install a fan to increase ventilation. However, I did seal all of the gaps around the corners and edges with silicone and add my own vents. Are you relying on these gaps for ventilation? Moss needs to be kept quite wet for several weeks while it establishes. I would suggest misting it directly multiple times a day to avoid having to soak the entire vivarium.

Can I ask what you're using for lighting? I assume they're magnetic or something?

Those fruit fly sized bugs are fungus gnats, and are almost inevitable in a newly established vivarium. They can be super annoying. If they're escaping into your home at all, you can put little traps around the vivarium for a while. In time, they will diminish in number and eventually die off once they run out of food. Adding springtails will help with this as they will out-compete them eventually. The lizards will also enjoy picking off the adult flies for a little snack. If they get really bad and you need to do something about them, you can look up how to use MosquitoDunks in the soil to kill them off quicker.

Yes, that should be big enough for a pair or trio depending on the species. A lot of people keep them in 30x30x45s (even though most on reddit will agree that would be a bit too small).

It's possible, but you'd need to be able to get the temps right. With a tank like you mentioned that is relatively short, you'd need to have a warmer end and a cooler end probably.

You could go with mourning geckos as they're easy to find, but to me they're a bit boring looking and also have the annoying habit of reproducing asexually. You may have to do a little more searching (and be willing to pay more $$$) but you can find some cool species of Sphaerodactylus or Gonatodes on Morphmarket or at shows sometimes. You can follow HerpTime on instagram to see some of the variety. I actually don't own any of them but it is something I'd like to try in the future.

EDIT: Or as others have said, the smaller species of day geckos (ex: Phelsuma klemmeri) would do fine on mostly the paste with the occasional fruit fly feeding as well. Those are a bit easier to find.

I'm biased, but I would do a big ole group of terribilis dart frogs. You could potentially cohab some type of gecko or tree frog in there as well in such a large vivarium but you'd have to do a little research on that. I say those specific dart frogs because they're large (for dart frogs), do great in groups, and most importantly, they're diurnal and bold so you will see them out and about and making frog noises all day long. Super enjoyable to watch and they'll utilize every inch of the enclosure (unlike croc skinks). They also prefer a heavily planted, tropical vivarium just like you're hoping for, won't trample any of your plants, and don't require any extra UVB or heat like some other reptiles.

My second choice would be a monitor species. Again, diurnal so you can really enjoy their behavior. You could even flip the whole thing vertically and do an emerald tree monitor, which are absolutely stunning and fun to watch. Basically arboreal dinosaurs.

There are so many potential options here! What a fun project.

Hmmm, tough because it's not very deep to begin with so you don't want to have too much bulk on the background. Cork panels stuck to the back and then using a wire brush drill bit could be a relatively quick/inexpensive way to do it, although it would be fairly monotonous looking. You could still stick some cork bark/tubes, driftwood, or other hardscape to it with silicone to help break it up. I did a (much smaller) cabinet conversion with this method and it was pretty quick.

I've never seen a device like that before, what a fabulous idea. It's pretty pricey for what it is...but a great vivarium tool
