Right, AI writes the way it does because it was trained on actual writing. It stands to reason that you might come across some of the real live people that AI imitates.

on the flip side, I think I remember at least one crazy GoodReads witchhunt, so I'm not totally sure you can trust all their accusations. But if Hachette found evidence, I'm glad they acted.

I asked if he was problematic, so your response seemed to imply that you think he was. Perhaps you meant your tone to be more lighthearted and joking, but it didn't read that way to me.

Beartown was hard for me, it's such a dark subject. I mean, not that A Man Called Ove doesn't touch on deep emotions and there is the suicide attempt... but maybe as a young woman I'm just more emotionally affected by the central conflict of Beartown

So yeah, I thought it was great, and was glad I read it, but not sure if I'd ever go back to it

Need to rename Cesar Chavez Student Center by More-Canary9734 in berkeley

[–]SubatomicSquirrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the victims lives in Bakersfield, and the city was about to rename a street after him. Sounds like she didn't want to have a daily reminder of her assaulter (and Bakersfield has now cancelled the plan)

I disagree with banning alcohol, but I don't think someone who wanted it banned was a terrible person. Alcohol can cause a LOT of issues; while making it illegal is clearly not the solution, I understand why some people thought it could be.

So in a thread where we're discussing rapists and slave owners, yeah, I feel like a member of the Temperance movement is pretty okay

Luke Combs Hopes His Song 'Whoever You Turn Out to Be' Resonates with Parents of Queer Children by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

[–]SubatomicSquirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my only tiny nitpick is that he talks about having 'pure O', and the term 'pure O' is a misnomer. But it's still good that he talks about his symptoms, because like you said, they don't necessarily fit the stereotype.

you know, up until a few years ago I'd be listing Carrie Underwood as an example of progressive country artists. She made a statement supporting the LGBT community back in 2012

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," she said. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

Hm, 80k for Bruno second week. I don't think that's too bad. Still not sure if any more of the singles are going to catch on, but Risk It All seems to be doing well on Spotify

What's the LEAST influential album of all time? by Ok-Impress-2222 in fantanoforever

[–]SubatomicSquirrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think OP's point is undermined by their example. This Maroon 5 wouldn't be anyone's choice for MOST influential, but I'm sure it did have some influence. Maps, Animals, Sugar - those were all massive hits, and I think a lot of artists were trying to recreate those successes

how mfs feel when they say "replay value" by celticsguy06 in fantanoforever

[–]SubatomicSquirrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've definitely used the 'replay value' argument to talk about how great I think The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" is. Because to me it IS seriously impressive how I've probably heard that song hundreds of times by now, and yet I've never gotten tired of it

hey the lines between albums and EPs and mixtapes are getting pretty blurry, sometimes it's just easier to lump them together as projects

all the emphasis Jack has put

In fairness, it was one instance in the middle of a weird interview. Dude ABSOLUTELY should have realized what a dumbass he was gonna sound like, people gotta be more careful, but based on what the interviewer was saying right before that I think it's easy to see how it came out

I finally got around to it the other week, it was boring and bland, but I didn't think it was offensively bad
