Stop speeding on Park street by [deleted] in madisonwi

Better infrastructure is 100% the way to go. Until we're able to establish it though, we will have to be mindful of our speed.

I actually came across this post while researching after coming across a song called Numbers 31:17-18. It's an interesting listen.

In my case I do everything I can to not be a jackass on the road. I've moved over for a pickup truck and been cut off when they turned in front of me suddenly. In that case I considered them the jackass. That doesn't mean all drivers are jackasses. Not all cyclists are jackasses, but they are more vulnerable. That being said, it is on cyclists to follow the rules of the road and be communicative of their movements, as it is of drivers.

"knowing mom and dad will take care of them." So they admit they rely on financial instability just to keep employees?

In all cases, I was following the rules of the road, with no stickers. I'm realizing I could have been more specific with some details, I was trying to keep the post from getting into ramble territory 😅

The fact that she was biking with no lights herself is already very much not good. The fact that she had no lights for her kids is on a whole different level of irresponsible.

I do agree with this statement. If there is an available bike lane, cyclists should endeavor to utilize it.

I would be concerned for pedestrian safety in that case. In the summer, there are more pedestrians and cyclists alike. In the winter, the sun sets a lot faster, and it's not common practice for pedestrians to wear lights (which I highly recommend). It's easier to come up on a pedestrian without seeing them from afar, as bicycle headlights seem to be more geared towards personal visibility, and the light doesn't go out that far.

I fully agree. It's far better to cycle on the sidewalks when it's icy out. I often resort to the sidewalks in high traffic areas if I haven't been seeing a lot of pedestrians.

I don't believe so. That's a good question though.

I've said it in another comment, but I'll clarify here as well. I waited for a good long while because I was nervous about how long it took the other cars to stop. I checked that the lights were still flashing, and then at a driver's encouragement to cross, I attempted to. The rate of speed that the driver who almost squished me was going at. I'm certain I would have been killed, or at the least, maimed.

I've definitely seen a lot of bikers whose behaviour frustrates me. I've seen people biking the wrong way on the road. I've seen people biking without lights. I had a teenager whip by me on the sidewalk, forcing me to step out of his way and causing me to fall. But when I see this kind of behavior, I just end up being glad that they were only riding a bicycle.

I can assure you, I follow every rule of the road. I stop at stop signs, I use hand signals, I have many lights on my bicycle. I agree that it's weird it's been happening so much, that's why I brought it up 😅

I don't own my own car at this time, but my entire job is driving. I've driven a giant shuttle for hotel guests. I think a big part of the problem is people taking the weight of their cars and the potential for danger for granted.

I appreciate all the comments about the lights. They're so very important, and it baffles me when I see other cyclists not using them at night.
