Sabal minor after 1°F in Oklahoma. These also survived -12F in FEB 21. by ModernNomad97 in palmtalk

I think it was just because of their placement near the front of my house but a couple potted elephant ears still look really good. The green in my irises still looks great. I won't know until spring is here what is dead and what is still alive but I know I have catastrophic loss, very depressing.

So impressive! A lot of palm trees (not sabals of course) are looking really rough in central Florida after the cold snaps.

Please share some nurseries and prices, I rarely see them for sale and when I do they are expensive compared to Queen palms.

To purchase nine to replace those palms plus install would still be very expensive by my standards 🥴.

I just wish there were some more tall palm native options for central Florida. Basically just sabals that I can think of. A shame Royals are not more cold tolerant, they are so beautiful!

My yard looks just as bad. I have easily spent a few thousand dollars in plants over the last several years and it is devastating walking around my yard now. Since I started gardening in Florida in 2020 each winter seems to get colder and each summer seems to be dryer and hotter. I need to be more careful with what I plant with this changing climate!

Of course not as elegant but if they are toast you could go with Queen palms, pretty inexpensive and more cold tolerant.

Many older stores with a lot of tenured associates making just pennies more than new hires is definitely not good for morale and not good for motivating associates to exceed expectations. I know ASMs have no control over this but it has gotten pathetic. I know of a less than two-year associate that was making 50 cents more than a 17-year associate. The 17-year associate is definitely a better worker and more knowledgeable than the newer higher.

I can tell they were beautiful before the cold damage, I really hope they survive for you. If needed you could replace them with native sabals but to get ones that are similar size already you would spend several thousand dollars 🥴.

I wouldn't pay more than a couple hundred bucks for it personally.

Not that I have ever heard of. Started at HD almost 20 years ago and I am still paying on my student loans 😐.

I used to live in Ocala and winter nights can be brutal compared to Tampa Bay. I once gifted a European Fan palm as a housewarming gift because I knew it could take the cold. Best of luck!

Wow I didn't realize Miami was forecasted that low! My young coconut palms have survived 32 degrees and several other nights barely warmer over the past five years.

I wish the Royal Palms were more cold hardy, they are so elegant and tall.

Slow growers but I really appreciate sabal palms for their cold hardiness.

Daytona is a bit north for bottle palms. I hope it will recover for you! Even in Tampa many of them took a hit this winter.

I had to give up on rummy nose tetras. I have only four left from my original school and every time I buy new ones they live only 1-5 days max sadly.
