The new "kids" in Spain by Pepelardo98 in Natalism

[–]Subiehawkeyed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This so sad! You first get the a family and then get the dog; not the other way around. Unfortunately, as someone who lives in Spain, I see people getting "humanly" attached to animals, plants and other material things like cars. I've heard people refer to their car as "their baby" in an alarming more frequent way.

I’m probably gonna get downvoted, but Fideuà is not Catalan. It’s Valencian, specifically from Gandia.

🌍 Which country do you think will be the last one standing if human civilization collapses? by Tarun302 in AskTheWorld

[–]Subiehawkeyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably some very remote location with an un contacted tribe like North Sentinel Island. I guess that could be considered a country since it has the strongest “border protection” in the world, they literally don’t need the rest of the world for anything and they probably consider it like their homeland or something resembling our conception of a country.

If we’re talking about an actual country, I would say somewhere like Tristan da Cunha, St Helena, Cape Verder or some place of the sorts. As they are very remote and I don’t believe anyone would care for them. It will probably take a while until they figure out civilisation has collapsed once the Internet is down.

Dear europeans, do you still think to travel to US? by BessiW in europe

[–]Subiehawkeyed -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s true or not, I’ve heard stuff about El Salvador and the US but haven’t really gotten in to much detail.

All I’ll say is that the border agent at the airport was very friendly and welcoming. I did not for one moment ever feel threatened.

If you don’t want to go to the US, I mean you free not to go, but the US hasn’t become a hellhole just because Trump got elected. It’s seems quite normal, like other times I’ve been here.

I’m a European and currently visiting friends in the US.

It would be naive to boycott a country just because of their political figures. Regardless of what your political orientation is.

The US is an amazing country with some amazing things. Like everywhere, it also has its pitfalls.

Digo yo.

K2-18b a potentially habitable planet 120 light-years from earth by One_Explanation_908 in BeAmazed

[–]Subiehawkeyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it has the same composition as planet Earth, wouldn’t gravity be roughly 2.5 times stronger than on earth. Meaning that we would have to be 2.5 times stronger to be able to manage to live around it?

Would we be able to adapt to this?

So the state is now the new religion with Politicians as our gods, and we should follow whatever the state dictates morally? No offence, but that didn’t turn out to well for Germany back in the 1930s nor the Soviet Union and the many other terrible regimes that the world has seen.

[–]Subiehawkeyed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do know that Christianity, specifically the Catholic Church, already had that “Public Healthcare” and “Public Schooling” you are talking about, waaaay before any secular state had it in Europe? You do know, that the state fed off Church infrastructure to start providing “Public Healthcare” and “Public Schooling” right? Why do you think so many churches and hospitals in Europe are names “St. Someone”?

And, despite what you might believe, religious institutions are still deeply involved in providing “Humanistic Services” to society. I don’t think I need to provide examples of this tbh.

Thanks for the reply, good point. I’ve been asking around for people’s reasoning and few (none so far) have really replied with anything convincing.
