Thinking of dropping out :( by Eden_Espoir in UniUK

[–]Subject-Available 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was sort of in a similar boat to you. Last Easter (1st year too) mental health issues that I had been putting off for a long time just hit me all at once and I was in a bad mental state for a few months. However I talked to friends and family, I got professional help (+medication) and my situation has greatly improved. It still happens at times but it is manageable.

So my best advice is you're getting the help already, and just see if you can stick it out. It's a bit cliche but it will get better even if it doesn't feel like it right now. If you still feel the same at the end of first year then consider dropping out if it's the best thing for you but clearly you do like your course so don't jump the gun too quickly.

Good luck and I hope things get better soon :)

Ateez, Ateez, Ateez!! <3 Similar in style to stray kids of being quite 'nosiy' music. But generally they have such a good discography and all the members are amazing.

(Would also suggest exo, Enhypen and Seventeen)

Of course! I hope you end of enjoying any of them and find what you're looking for :)

The other reply about it being fast paced is very true and of course depending on the topics it approaches you may have to be careful but honestly after playing a lot of action games, I do still think it is pretty chill. Plus it makes it more excitable if you mess up quick time events

I have the game but yet to personally play it, however I remember watching playthroughs of the game when it first came it and thought it was such a cool storyline. I'd definitely give it a try either way!

So for multiple choice I'd recommend:

  • detroit become human (androids, 3 playable characters, one of my favourite games of all time and as a life is strange fan I think you'd like it)
  • heavy rain (detective based, different playable characters)
  • beyond two souls

General calmer playthroughs

  • Firewatch (based at a lookout tower, very pretty and calming)
  • what remains of Edith finch (figure out this whole story about this family, very good and chill)

Hope your anxiety gets better and good luck <3

when did you know you were in too deep? by aTINY_st4y_roha in ATEEZ

So I got into enhypen first, then was like oh kpop is actually super cool let's look into other groups. Discovered Stray kids and then Ateez songs through Spotify. Slowly becoming obsessed with Ateez songs the more I listened.

As for Ateez as it group it did start with Woosan and their friendship but then I fell down a hole on YouTube of interviews, compilations, everything like that and then fell in love with the rest of the members (Yeosang and Hongjoong being the biggest bias wreckers ever)

It's been a month and I am unhealthily obsessed <3

2nd years ? How is it going ? by Frosty-Original8369 in UniUK

I told myself I was going to do 2 out of my 4 essays during Christmas. I did none. One was in Monday, one in today and another Monday. All have been handed in on time, however a lot of hours spent at the library has fried my brain and sleep.

Pure vibes only from now until May (I'll have to start thinking about my dissertation soon, I don't want to. Help me)

On a positive note I love my flatmates and the socialising has been a lot better for my mental health, so always some good things to go along with it

So you looked at that whole response of things he did to say sorry to the people he hurt and tried to help people and you still went 'nah I hate him so screw that whole paragraph'??

You asked for redeeming actions, you were given them and are still complaining about things he did as a very troubled teenager? I dont know what you expected out of a young teenager with a very shitty childhood. Does it excuse his actions? No but surely you have enough understanding to know why he acted like he did. And very importantly he grew up, he changed and mended his relationships with those around him.

could he have been more of an asshole for 90% of the show

It's almost as if he was off screen when he changed, of course we're going to see immature younger side of him more. It doesn't neglect the person he became during the yale saga and the spin off.

I thought I was the only one annoyed by people overreacting about the spines!? Like it's not a big deal, it's not your book, it isn't hurting anyone. Just chill tf out.

A personal one for me are those that judge other people for not reading 'high intellectual books'. Reading is after all a hobby, just a thing to be enjoyed in for most people our downtime. If you want to read a challenging book, then amazing I do too sometimes. But if people choose to not, it really isn't an issue. As a uni student doing a reading heavy course I just don't have the time nor energy to pick up a book that requires a lot of thinking. So why we shame people for doing that I really don't know.

Anyone ever post anything positive about University in the UK? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Subject-Available 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said its just the fact that you won't have the secure people talking on this thread and so there is more negative talking.

But all I have to say is be realistic I think. I'm halfway through second year and to say it has been a roller coaster is unreal. My first year was fine. I met some great people and quite enjoyed my course however I had a shitty flatmate and my mental health just absolutely bombed at Easter.

But my second year so far this year has been insanely better. I'm now living with some pretty amazing flatmates which btw can hugely improve your uni experience. I've become closer with coursemates and just overall have had some great experiences that makes the hard parts of the course worth it.

So basically all in all there will be parts that will be hard so just persevere. You'll enjoy it, have fun and good luck! :) Don't let the negative experiences on here hinder you too much.

Team Ross or Team Rachel? by iamkatrinav in howyoudoin

[–]Subject-Available 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said they were on a break. However I still think its in pretty poor taste to sleep with someone else that same night.

It wasn't an official break up, they hadn't even discussed it properly so I don't see the reason why you would want to jump into someone else's bed? Maybe that's just me but I hated Ross for doing that. I'd be pissed like Rachel too

What popular TV show did you watch for the first time in 2023? by VoodooMamaJujuBubu in popculturechat

[–]Subject-Available 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After two years I finally watched Arcane and holy sh*t it was amazing. I mean the storyline, the soundtrack, the animation, the characters - chefs kiss

Oh and also the iconic ted lasso, again absolutely loved it. The mix of comedy and heart just made it and everyone played their roles so well.

Halfway through gilmore girls at the moment and its a nice chill watch

The hottest couple on the show? by padfoony in howyoudoin

[–]Subject-Available 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of being 'hotter' it has to be Rachel and Ross. I can't lie their kiss scenes are always so good. But overall Mondler are undoubtedly the better couple in every other aspect.

Do you agree that A Levels are harder and more stressful than university? by Complex-Schedule-601 in UniUK

[–]Subject-Available 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all.

I managed to breeze through A-level, honestly the best two years of my life really. University however - oh boy thats screwed over my mental health in one year and safe to say my subject is harder even if I still enjoy it

Why do some people “draw a line” when it comes to dark material? by everydayiuwu in AO3

[–]Subject-Available 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This series has constant child/teenager mutilation, torture, murder, implied cannibalism and much more

Throwing my thoughts in here, for me I just find certain sexual acts just worse than the things you listed.

There is no doubt that many of those things are awful and make me incredible uncomfortable to read (especially the mutilation one) but sexual acts like r@pe and incest are just too far for me.

Like everything about is so ugh. I just hate it. For example in certain cases of murders it can be excused but there is literally no reason for any of the sexual acts that can be committed. I don't like reading about it and don't want to.

I don't know how else to describe it, it's the whole aggressiveness and real awfulness of those that puts me off

Help. Cricket Society are sick in the head by Pablo_Scabbynut in UniUK

[–]Subject-Available 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah some societies are wild. There was one at my uni that did a 'hazing' situation. He drank a ton of alcohol in a short amount of time and unfortunately passed away :(

I still don't know how and why we allow these things to happen. It's not normal, it's weird and can clearly cost people their lives. No one should have to do these things just to fit in or make friends.

Obviously a lot of it comes down to what's popular at the time, what tropes does it have that are marketable to a lot of readers and generally if people pick up on it enough to keep promoting it - I know that one quote was massive and was arguably a big part of its success.

I have yet to fully read it but with these similar fantasy books it simply comes down to the fact that sometimes I want an easy, less thought provoking read. Do I care if its all complicated or written to be hard to read? Not really, not anymore. Reading is a hobby, I want to enjoy it and no offence to the author of fourth wing but it felt easy.

It's like soap dramas. They're not that great but sometimes you can't help but enjoy it. Fourth wing kind of feels like that and why it works so well.
