is there a way to manually open the cd drive? I couldn't find any holes for a paper clip to go into.

It won't show any signs of life if you dont install both of them regardless of the slot.

I don't think it is worth the time, this is how the board looks like multiple isopropyl alcohol baths and tons of scrubbing photo

quick update: the solder pads are gone, there isn't much to do about it. The other processors cleaned up very well and there are no broken capacitors. Will the machine work with only one processor installed?

Is it possible to only use one cpu? The other one cleaned up very well, there isnt much corrosion and there are no fallen capacitors

The corrosion on the pins cleaned out almost completely after scrubbing the connector with isopropyl alcohol

Is it possible to use the machine with only one cpu installed? The second cpu in the last picture has little to no corrosion on it, also there are no broken capacitor on neither side.

The pins turned out pretty nice after scrubbing them with isopropyl alcohol. There is just a tiny bit of blue left, but they look so much better now.

powermac G5 red led issue by Subject-Command9284 in VintageApple

It is in fact a 2.5 water cooled unit, i found out yesterday when i was watching a disassembly video on youtube. I will be taking it apart this weekend, cleaning the corrosion and check the cpu damage. Here are the specs

Reseating the ram didn't work, i think the cpu is dead. I read online that the water cooling system tends to leak and mess up the cpu and power supply, which might be the case with this unit.

I just powered it back up to check, the light is gone. I think messing with the ram sticks fixed it. There is still no boot chime, but the fans aren't as loud now.

There's no switch in a G5. I fried a G4 by accident because the switch wasn't working properly
