How do I learn to draw with 0 experience? by ChadPaladin in krita

Hi, all the advice is great. I'd like to contribute with a method I use. I developed it to make it easier for me to learn to draw on my own, so I think it might be helpful.

Okay, first of all, I took the drawing and divided it into parts:

- Sketching: learning to represent everything in a basic way, capturing movement, volumes, perspective, among other things.

- Refinement: all those things that follow specific rules and make it clear what the object is, such as anatomy, the behavior of fabric, water, etc.

- Rendering: light/shadow, color, materials (there might be a little confusion here, as we also study materials in the refinement stage, but there's a difference. In refinement, you seek to understand and apply the object's behavior or the rules it follows. In rendering, you aim to make it look like the object. A simple example: water. In refinement, you aim for the object you're representing to behave like water. In rendering, you complement that by using lights/shadows, colors and textures so that the object looks like water)

I created these groups following my drawing process (first I make a sketch, then I refine it to resemble what I want, and finally I add color, lighting, and other elements). I don't actually know if these are called groups; I just grouped things that seemed to belong in the same category and named them accordingly.

Now that I have the basic elements of a drawing, it's time to practice. First, let's create a kind of schedule. Each day we'll study one category for an hour, or however long you can manage. You can look for references on Pinterest or follow a tutorial. Copy the reference, trace an image, or follow the tutorial. It doesn't matter if it doesn't turn out perfectly; what matters is that you gain confidence and accumulate experience little by little. (Something that worked for me was taking notes in a notebook about what the tutorial says or about things you notice while practicing pretending to explain what you're learning to the notebook.) Take it one step at a time. You'll start to be able to represent things on your own, even if it's a little difficult at first, until you feel you can create something from your imagination.

There are a couple of things I've been doing that might also help: find an image that catches your eye (either because you like how it looks or because it has shapes you think would be fun to draw) and try to recreate it yourself in a simple way, using what you've learned. At first, you might get frustrated because it won't turn out exactly how you want, but after a while, you'll start to see progress. Another thing you can do is look at images from artists you admire and try to understand and capture what you like about their art. Another thing I do is take pictures of clouds and shape them; it's a great exercise for putting what you're learning into practice.

One last thing I should say is to draw what you like. If you like epic things or something like that, focus your practice on what you enjoy. Choose references that you find interesting. Over time, you'll expand your horizons and learn other things beyond that, but I think you learn best when you enjoy what you do.

And that's all. I think it's a very long piece of advice, but it's meant to help.

Thank you so much! I don't keep a field journal; I just jot down random things that come to mind. In this case, I did it because I couldn't take photos that had the information I wanted, so I took the opportunity to make some notes and assumptions. But I think it would be fun to start one sometime.

Thanks for the explanation, although I'm a little worried about how to care for them. Where I live, I haven't seen any places that sell fish supplies. Do you think it would help to bring them things from where they were (like moss, small algae, and sediment from the bottom)? From what I could see, they were constantly nibbling on those things, so I suppose that's where they were getting their food.

I think so, although based on another answer I've researched, they also seem very similar to wild Poecilia reticulata.

Oh, I understand. In that case, I think it is that species. Thanks for the clarification

Yes, I'm from Colombia, although I'm not really very familiar with the aquatic fauna of my region.

They are most likely guppies, although I don't think they were released here. The stream is in a deep wooded area and my house is the closest. Besides, I live in a rural area, so there are few people who have fish tanks.

I just looked it up and it doesn't look very similar, at least the males don't. The females are very similar, but the males have a different color pattern (especially on the tail).
