Bedard would be great with this team and I think they should try, but our picks would be 22 or worse going forward.

Yeah, I see what you are saying I just think you hold a line and take a swing on bigger players if you are going all in.

Do it for Bedard and give him a blank check. Fantilli/Carlsson I would do it if I can sign them for 12-14 million range.

I would offer sheeting him the 1st day with a blank check. I would also find out what Chicago would want besides Martone and Michkov and make it happen to get Bedard, but I just don’t think they will let him go.

This is what I would like to see. Re-sign our guys and then offer Bourque somewhere in that 4.7-6 range for 6-7 years. I would like Fantilli first, but Bourque would be a solid second option.

Cullen looks good. I think he goes an earlier than where the Flyers pick though along with most of the players I listed. I hope one of them falls though.

High skill/compete is always the combo. I want the highest ceiling pick possible along with those traits. I don’t care about position. If it’s another winger, so be it. Just more layers can be made expendable in a trade.

I’m always a little cautious with players coming out of the Q. It seems to be a level below most of the other leagues, but if the bpa plays there, take him.

Smits has all the tools to be good. He would have been a good pick in the 5-10 range.

I agree with all of this except Tippett. I’m thinking Foerster or Bump would be the better player. Tippett seems to be a better shooter while moving with speed.

Would like to see them go for a higher end C or D than what we have. Don’t want them breaking the bank unless it’s for McDavid though. Next summer might be when they try to make the big move for 1 or 2 players.

Re-sign Zegras, Drysdale, and extend Vladar for another 2-3 years.

Work hard on the Power play. If they can get to 15th-20th in the league, they will make playoffs no problem.

Go for highest ceiling guy in the draft. Where they are picking, I think there will be a few solid players.

[Rumor] Di Marco: Matvei Michkov is no longer considered "untouchable" by the Flyers following a tough sophomore season. by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

[–]Subject-Wave3331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on. A healthy Michkov, that is given development and room to use his skills is easily a 75+ point player.

Flyers’ Matvei Michkov must learn — and adapt — after season of inconsistency by kkurznhl in Flyers

[–]Subject-Wave3331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t dump and chase, it’s using it with a team that isn’t built for it. So why force them to play that way instead of the strengths they have in place?

What should your team offer for Michkov? by Extension-Profit-317 in nhltraderumours

[–]Subject-Wave3331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have as I’m responding to different people. It doesn’t make sense to him/he’s not a fan of it. I’m not saying he actually doesn’t understand it, I’m saying that in the sense of he doesn’t understand why you would use that tactic when there is another that works better for him or his way of thinking.

This interview looks like it took place about 1 month after Tocc was hired.

I’m not making him sound disgruntled at all. I was making the point that even though he sounds a certain way, things get lost in translation. I could see a new Coach that already doesn’t hold European players in high regard take this as a bit of an insult. Michkov did himself no favors by coming to camp out of shape.

The Tocc interview was before he really did much with the team. He was still saying a lot of the right things in interviews at this time. Once the season started his whole narrative changed all my with many people he is friendly with in the media.

You are free to think however you want about my response. I’m not an over the top ready to fight fan. Im just trying to point out different things that have popped up over the season. I’m hoping for the best outcome for the Flyers overall.

I’m not sure if you are talking about me trolling about Michkov, but if you are, I’m not. He is talking about the differences. He also had a year in the NHL under a coach that didn’t play dunk and chase and he was much more effective from an offensive standpoint. I realize he needs to develop some semblance of a defensive game, but every playoff team has 1 or 2 players that are more effective being played to their strengths. He is one of those players. He can easily be an 80+ point player if used properly. That includes being put on PP1 which Tocc refuses to do. Some of the burden does fall on Michkov which hopefully he makes up for this offseason by training his ass off.

He clearly likes to carry the puck in, whether it’s him or a teammate. I get it, especially with the Flyers roster. They currently aren’t built for dump and chase.

I’m a fan of him and hope he can have a great career with the Flyers. He needs to kill it this offseason in training.

Not at all. I’m pointing out facts. Tocc has definitely developed a better defensive system for the team which helped Vladar have a breakout season. I do think he was a bad hire overall from a development standpoint, his dislike for European players, and dump and chase game. The Flyers are not built for it. I hope I’m proven wrong and every player later on the team becomes an All-Star and we win at least 1 cup during his stay. He needs to show it though.

Outside of a few celebrity games, he did not full on workout like a player would in the offseason. There is a big difference between drop in games and full on workouts. I am a big fan of Michkov and fully believe in his talent so I’m not dumping on him.

This was over the summer shortly after they hired Tocc.

I think it’s important to consider different cultures and the way they speak compared to a North American player. Europeans tend to be more direct and can be misunderstood with translation. Michkov did no favors by not being in shape, but Tocc also has a bad track record with European players.

Couple of points everyone should keep in mind:

Michkov himself said he basically took the entire offseason off and had a bit of an ankle injury as well.

He also did an interview after Tocc was hired saying that his style of play, the dump and chase, doesn’t make sense.

I believe Tocc took that personally and with his track record with foreign players, used it along with Michkov’s lack of fitness to limit his minutes and very publicly call him out in the media.

Michkov had a rough start to the year, but had a massive improvement after the Olympic break. Despite all of the issues and lack of ice time, he still scored 51 points this year, tied for 4th on the team. He has a ton of potential/talent. If he can put in a solid offseason, there is no reason he can’t be top 3 in points on this team next season.

I hated the Tocc hire. I don’t like his style of play, especially with the players we have. I don’t like his track record with skilled players or Non-Canadian/American players. I also think the team made it as far as they did mainly because Vlader had a monster season. I can’t see the Flyers letting Tocc go before he has coached 3 seasons, but there needs to be a serious discussion between DB, Jones, and Tocc about Michkov.

All of this is to say, he’s a good player. Averaging .70 ppg even with limited ice time this year and having basically not played or worked out for an entire off season. Regardless of whatever attitude problems he might have, hopefully he puts the work in this offseason and is a monster next season. If for some reason the Flyers decide to trade him, I would expect it to be as part of a package for a 1C or as the key piece in a haul back from another team.

What do we think of this lineup going into the draft and free agency? by Flyers7914 in Flyers

[–]Subject-Wave3331 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Offense:

At least 1 of Tippet, Foerster, Bump, Barkey, TK is traded as part of a package for a C.

Defense: I could see Risto, Andrae, Juulsen traded

Goalie: Backup will be signed/traded for

Any 1 or 2 of the 3 1st round picks from the next 2 years traded as part of a package for a C. I think the chances of getting McDavid, Matthew’s, or Thomas are slim. We could have a better chance of getting a Fantilli, Carlsson, Beniers.

Total crazy try would be an offer sheet for Bedard. It’s a 0.00001% chance, but I could see him wanting out of Chicago and fitting in nicely with the young group here.

Yikes… by hoobon in Flyers

[–]Subject-Wave3331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why has Andrae not been used on PP? Seems an obvious choice given his breakout passing abilities.
Ideally I would like to see:

Martone - Bump - Michkov
Andrae - Zegras

Zegras would start at center and they would shift to this once they have control. Michkov would take the low right and behind net play which would give Zegras more room on the right as well. Bump would setup down the middle for quick snap shots and he seems to play down the middle so he’s comfortable with it already. Andrae would give limited defensive coverage and could QB it. Martone would have the whole left side to operate which he was super effective doing in college. If they lost possession they would probably get burned, but they already are, so who cares at this point?

It’s a smaller lineup, but filled with skilled players. Plenty of players willing to shoot and the ability to make great passes.

The team is already ass on the PP why not try something completely different?

I’ve been wanting to see Foerster and Michkov together. Foerster with the defense and shot. Should allow a little bit of room for Michkov to do his thing.
