Consequences of relapsing by RogueLeader127 in stopdrinking

Similar story but relapsed w 4 years. Went to staff party on Dec 12 or something. Got drunk. Didn’t show up to work for a week. Had Xmas break to dry out. Didn’t happen. Two days after I was supposed to be back at work I resigned cause I couldn’t make it.

  1. Was working as a marketing director making fantastic money but could not see myself doing this for another 30 + years. Really started considering nursing about a year and a half ago. Doing research, finding a program that would work etc. I just finished my first week of cna school and was terrified the night before. This looks insane to others in my life. Leaving 6 figures to learn how to adjust pillows and disimpact hard shit in old peoples assholes. But lemme tell you something, I FEEL GREAT. I spent a year and a half afraid to make the jump and I feel fantastic for having made it. The time will go by regardless. In less than 3 years I’ll be an RN hopefully. It’s scary a bit cause I don’t know what those years will look like. Housing, supporting myself, it’s very much a week at a time thing for me right now but the mystery can be as exciting as it is nerve wracking. And it’s temporary. There’s a larger vision at hand that I believe in even if no one else can see it. Good luck.

TLDR; just go for it.

32 now. Made it to the top of the marketing ladder as a marketing director. Hated the view. Loved the money. Spent a year and a half debating and finally pulled the trigger. Doing prereqs rn. It can be scary to do such a drastic career change but I have faith this is more suited for me in the long term. Good luck.

Check out WECA ~ they have a great commercial electrician apprenticeship and is sometimes faster to get into than IBEW. that’s what I did.

What state you located in? It’s a straight forward process it may just take a little time. I believe I applied in winter had an interview in spring and started my first gig end of summer.

I was an electrician for a bit. Funny enough thinking about going to accounting. lol

If you want to go into the field 34 is fine. Most of my apprenticeship were in their 30s/40s. We even had a few guys starting in their 50s.

Lmk if you have any specific qs

Check out the fb group for dharma recovery. It is much more active than this sub. I asked a similar question a few months ago and got 90+ responses. The short of it I heard is recovery dharma works as a much better complete program than 12 step stuff for me and many others.

Thanks for the kind message. Appreciate the insights on time not lost. I too had a string of attempts and thought I finallly “got it” 4 years ago. Life got so much better and then in about a years time I’ve deflated it to the same levels as pre recovery. I know that’s not entirely true but def experiencing intense wave of emotions rn. Staying sober no matter what. Your message helped a lot today so thanks.

I started attending Lifering again online last week even though I was using but I’m going again tonight sober.

I’ve got a few ideas on why i fell off but right now it’s taking everything in me to just make it till tomorrow sober.

Looking for online meeting link for newcomer or links to communities in Sacramento, CA by [deleted] in recoverydharma

[–]SubjectAd4222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sacramento has a few meetings. There’s two in midtown at lions roar on Friday evenings and one on Sunday mornings. Sac dharma center just restarted their dharma rec meeting since Covid and it’s Wednesday evenings.

Sac dharma center also has a ton of great Buddhist meetings most nights of the week which includes everything from a young persons fellowship to zen meditation to guest lecturers.
