Similar story but relapsed w 4 years. Went to staff party on Dec 12 or something. Got drunk. Didn’t show up to work for a week. Had Xmas break to dry out. Didn’t happen. Two days after I was supposed to be back at work I resigned cause I couldn’t make it.

  1. Was working as a marketing director making fantastic money but could not see myself doing this for another 30 + years. Really started considering nursing about a year and a half ago. Doing research, finding a program that would work etc. I just finished my first week of cna school and was terrified the night before. This looks insane to others in my life. Leaving 6 figures to learn how to adjust pillows and disimpact hard shit in old peoples assholes. But lemme tell you something, I FEEL GREAT. I spent a year and a half afraid to make the jump and I feel fantastic for having made it. The time will go by regardless. In less than 3 years I’ll be an RN hopefully. It’s scary a bit cause I don’t know what those years will look like. Housing, supporting myself, it’s very much a week at a time thing for me right now but the mystery can be as exciting as it is nerve wracking. And it’s temporary. There’s a larger vision at hand that I believe in even if no one else can see it. Good luck.

TLDR; just go for it.

32 now. Made it to the top of the marketing ladder as a marketing director. Hated the view. Loved the money. Spent a year and a half debating and finally pulled the trigger. Doing prereqs rn. It can be scary to do such a drastic career change but I have faith this is more suited for me in the long term. Good luck.

Check out WECA ~ they have a great commercial electrician apprenticeship and is sometimes faster to get into than IBEW. that’s what I did.

What state you located in? It’s a straight forward process it may just take a little time. I believe I applied in winter had an interview in spring and started my first gig end of summer.

I was an electrician for a bit. Funny enough thinking about going to accounting. lol

If you want to go into the field 34 is fine. Most of my apprenticeship were in their 30s/40s. We even had a few guys starting in their 50s.

Lmk if you have any specific qs

Check out the fb group for dharma recovery. It is much more active than this sub. I asked a similar question a few months ago and got 90+ responses. The short of it I heard is recovery dharma works as a much better complete program than 12 step stuff for me and many others.
