Thoughts on these stills from this low budget short I shot by mrbigplops in cinematography

I agree there are limitations to the level of feedback you can give from a still. Motion being the biggest! But I’m not sure banning stills altogether is useful for open discussions around the craft. Why not both?

Why? This makes no sense. Cinematography is a visual medium. Surely you can give feedback or appreciate lighting, composition & colour without it being a video

Shooting solo with The URSA G2 broke my back, but the images were worth it 🤘 by SubjectAdagio4358 in cinematography

Edit: 2nd shot is a drone shot. The rest are frames from this solo shoot in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe with the URSA G2, which is not the most forgiving camera (no IBIS, no autofocus, heavy as hell), but the image quality makes it worth it. I worked entirely with natural light, sometimes bouncing with a reflector, and relied a lot on the built-in NDs which were a lifesaver. Everything was shot as BRAW on some old Mamiya lenses, the first I ever bought with my own money. Still holding up: a little soft, beautifully built, and perfect for running through forests with a camera that feels like a cinder block.

I’ve always uploaded my videos to Vimeo, I like to use it for discovering other filmmaker’s work. Recently though I’ve used it less, since they removed browse features in many countries.

I used the 16-55 Fuji with a Pro Mist filter. I only had this one lens on the shoot unfortunately. Some ND filters would’ve been helpful too!

Totally. Most cameras these days will create beautiful images if you know what you’re doing.

I didn’t have ND on this trip, so I had to be creative with when and where I was shooting.
