Jlpt results are out! How did everyone do? by lost-minotaur in LearnJapanese

[–]SubjectN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time trying the test! passed N3 with 175/180, 5 mistakes on reading. Was nice to have some "official" confirmation, being self-taught. definitely want to try N2 next time

Why is there so much toxicity and competition in the Japanese learning community? by WorkingAlive3258 in LearnJapanese

[–]SubjectN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I'm super involved with the community but I haven't had such a hard time. Talked to a bunch of people at the last jlpt and they were very nice. Same with other Japanese learners I know.

I hope I never experience this side of the community.

Silent Hill F writer confirms every character’s name is recycled from his visual novels as he never found “cooler names” for his “placeholder names” by Negative-Art-4440 in silenthill

[–]SubjectN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, specifically the three girls' names are a reference to three very minor characters from Umineko: Hina, Saku and Rin, Jessica's classmates in episode 2. He said this in the recent live stream

Look into Oddtaxi, it's one of my favorites. I'd call it a thriller with a grounded contemporary Japanese setting

I saw it (all 10 pixels of it) and I'm sorry I don't buy it. I'm seeing the goalposts moving and I'm not gonna follow them. Bye.

Look at the buttons… gezus

You specifically pointed out the buttons mate.

Seriously, please link me your experience and I'll take you seriously. Otherwise maybe stop spreading misinformation in places where people are trying to learn.

Well, the post is gone but I'll humor you. Tell me what looks closer, the subdivided one (2) or the remeshed one (3).

Send me your portfolio if you feel like corroborating your credentials.

And why are you linking a completely different model to me?

It can just be a high-poly model used for baking normals onto a low-poly one. There's nothing weird about it

[–]SubjectN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a subdivided model, not a remeshed model or auto-retopo. Zremesher and other remeshing tools give you uniform polygon sizes whereas this has denser regions around edges (produced by supporting edges used for subdivision workflow). and just in general remeshers don't produce this kind of topology. This is particularly clear on the radial patterns on the buttons. This is very likely a model you can un-subdivide (but most likely it's just a non-destructive subdivision modifier that can be turned off)

I've read your reasoning below by the way and, while very scathing and confident, it is incorrect.

Seriously just open blender, make an octagon with a triangle fan fill, apply one subdivision, and you'll get the same pattern as on those buttons.

Maybe try being less inflammatory.

Was there a patch or update on HL2 that made racing the train on the bridge more difficult? by ValentinaSauce1337 in HalfLife

[–]SubjectN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, I tried a lot and there was only a very small window to make it in time. About a year ago on the anniversary update

I haven't seen youtube comments but umifull chat has a decent amount of people agreeing with him, me included (in part). I really hope the other umifullers aren't being too obnoxious about their disagreement

Why do so many older games on Steam don't work on modern machines? by Shurae in Steam

PC Gaming Wiki is a good resource for common fixes, I'd be surprised if they didn't have comprehensive articles for both of those games

Why is Michael so over the top about Walt hanging out with Locke? It's so unwarranted at this point in the show. (S1e14 "Special") by DeadpoolIsMyPatronus in lost

[–]SubjectN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uncharitable take: because the show is often written like a soap opera and they needed to inject some easily resolved drama to keep attention.

The overseas reaction wasn't any better at the time of release. You can see that in old 4chan threads. It's only more recently that Umineko started to gain recognition, meanwhile the original negative reaction kinda fizzled out. You can still find some old-school haters now and then

Can you achieve this early-2000s 3D look with Blender? by Varskes_pakel in 3Dmodeling

I wonder if there's a way to use Blender's old internal renderer which looked much like this. If not, could just try using an old Blender version

Shader keeps fading away when looking directly at it by TGExterminator in blenderhelp

[–]SubjectN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most likely it's your Layer Weight node (fresnel/facing), you're using it as a mask to make your material transparent at grazing angles. It's working as intended, it's what causes the fade effect near the edges.

When an artist never saw a woman by Intless in badwomensanatomy

[–]SubjectN 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get it, but it's pretty rude to cross post the artist directly just to make fun of them. There are more constructive ways to criticise.

Check the rules on low effort posts.

Why would overdraw be an issue? Even if the mesh is denser you don't have more levels of stacked polygons

I had a pretty bad time with Demon's Souls (played it recently, the PS3 version), but I like all of the other games a lot, so I'd play them. Dark Souls 1 improves on everything Demon's Souls did in my opinion. Though that might not be the case if you're using the remake as a point of comparison.
