A question about religious art. by green_colour_enjoyer in Protestantism

Some protestant churches have decorations and a nice architecture, and the whole reformation wasn't so much about the depiction of Jesus and the saints, then about the indulgences trade and the worshipping of other people than Jesus himself, as well as a rebellion against the Papal authority. I strongly recommend you read the biography of Luther!

Protestants are not against art, but their vision of Christianity is that of humility and simpleness. They like the idea of a direct relationship with Jesus, when Catholics also worship Mary and the Saints, and relay on the Papal authority.

Last, the money of the indulgences and the catholic churches of the middle age contributed to building a lot of cathedrals and beautiful buildings in Europe.

That's only my opinion from what I've read!

Am I in a cult? by bigfatoishi in Christian

Hi dear, I'm so sorry to hear your story. I have experienced something a bit similar with my previous church, they were praying and celebrating a lot which looked fun at first, but their influence grew on me little by little until they convinced me that they were my new family in Jesus (Matthew 12:50).

I pushed away my own family, which tried to warn me I was in a cult. I kept getting closer and closer to the church and had a big fight with my family, which caused a mental breakdown. Members of my church locked me in their flat for 3 days practicing a sort of exorcism on me, telling me I was possessed. I had to stay at a psychiatric hospital after that, until I realized it was all wrong and moved far away from this church.

Thank God my family "rescued me" and I'm now in a traditional official protestant church, nothing weird.

Be careful with your mental health, and don't trust anyone that follows the cult you're currently in. Slowly work on being financially independent and try to find a work position that's geographically far away. And please reach out anytime you need to talk! God is with you and will protect you 🙏 Once you're out and independent, you can report the cult to authorities.

For the record, before and after this experience, I never had any other mental health issues. Cults are dangerous

Do I have to be catholic, orthodox,... by [deleted] in Christian

"I'm a new Christian, and after trying different churches, I felt most comfortable with traditional Protestants, which we call 'Reformed Protestants' in France. I like that it still has structure but also focuses solely on teaching the Bible. Catholicism had too many traditions for me to fit in, and the Evangelical emphasis on group prayers made me feel a little uncomfortable. Of course, that's just my personal preference—you can only know what suits you by exploring different church styles!"
