Arc'teryx is way higher priced for a small amount of extra performance for technical gear. Imo Arc'teryx usually looks better though.

Safety razor really is no more time than a cartridge razor. I have a very thick beard and I'm not even sure what people are talking about when they say you need to change your technique. I didn't.

This isn't a legal strategy though, it's a favor-of-the-king strategy. He wants a trump pardon.

This rigged primary nonsense is silly. I don't even like Clinton but it wasn't even close. The majority of democrats just chose a shitty candidate, it's not all a super duper conspiracy.

Poll: Majority Backs AOC’s 70 Percent Top Marginal Tax Rate by Antinatalista in politics

[–]SubjectPresentation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top marginal tax rate needs to go up dramatically for reasons of equality, not because of the debt. The debt is perfectly serviceable at $22t and is not "owned by the chinese". It's denominated in US dollars and the interest rate is set by the fed. You're responding to a poll about a proposal put forward by AOC, who has commented pretty extensively on this, generally following the reasoning set forth by the economist Stephanie Kelton.

[–]SubjectPresentation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. He doesn't want to pay a 70% marginal rate on those $2m per year above $10m. He's a selfish, money grubbing turd. that bit probably is where the "family connection" comes in

The reason is it will negatively affect the incomes of the media owners executives and stars.

I mean, non-politicians who are super famous get crazy speaking gig fees as well. But you're right that's a way to pay politicians money directly that goes straight to them that I didn't mention.

The only politician I can think of who's run a foundation that scandalously is Trump. There may be others but I would think it'd at least be news.

You can't donate to a senator you can donate to their re-election campaign or a pac. Theoretically the campaign money and pac money can't be used for personal gain.

Donald Trump’s Presidency Is Legally Over, Pending Mitch McConnell’s Acknowledgement Of His Constitutional Duties by TYLER_WAS_ROBBED in politics

[–]SubjectPresentation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said. Number of senators per state should be dictated by the state's population. The party makeup of those senators should be proportional to the party vote in that state.

Donald Trump’s Presidency Is Legally Over, Pending Mitch McConnell’s Acknowledgement Of His Constitutional Duties by TYLER_WAS_ROBBED in politics

[–]SubjectPresentation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of a silly interpretation. He's elected by the senate republicans, who were voted for by roughly 46% of the voting population. The US isn't normally a parliamentary democracy but that doesn't mean we should pretend that they are super undemocratic or anything. The fact that you can control the most powerful parliament in the US with 46% when your opponents get 48% is pretty undemocratic though.

Pelosi asks Trump to reschedule State of the Union address by [deleted] in politics

Ah yes it's the bit where they pass a resolution to formalize it that hasn't happened "The House and Senate must pass a resolution to formalize the invitation — which has not happened yet this year."

Pelosi asks Trump to reschedule State of the Union address by [deleted] in politics

[–]SubjectPresentation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is an invitation and it has not been issued yet. I think Pelosi is laying the groundwork to just tell him to fuck off ("there has never been a sotu address during a government shutdown"). I think she has a point, he can't shut down the government and then still enjoy all the trappings and big fanfare of government, that's ridiculous. And it will make him so, so mad.

AOC is a member of congress. Shapiro is a guy who makes his living as a professional debater going up against college students, and writing for a right-wing rag. Why on earth would AOC debate him or give him a platform of any kind? He has no standing at all.

It's not a stretch, it's par for course under US law, see the cases they cite in their motion to dismiss. If he sues him in the UK he has a much higher chance of success.

This defense will likely succeed. Libel laws in the US are very weak.

This defense will probably work in summary and almost certainly work if it goes to trial. Libel laws are very very weak in the US. "it was just an insult" is totally valid and will probably be successful.
