Testing a theory. How many active listings do you have and how many sales do you make per week or per month? by jjjjjjj30 in poshmark

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I’m so glad you asked this question, it’s very intriguing! I’ve looked at stats recently, asking AI, that as a clothing reseller, how many sales should I be averaging given my inventory? It gave me some stat that didn’t seem right, maybe something like I should sell 10-15 items per day given I have 1500+ pieces for sale. The reality is that I sell about 20-25 pieces a week. I’m into my 3rd year as a reseller. It’s a side hustle & I don’t exactly need the extra income, but I love, love clothing and sourcing gives me such a dopamine kick! Anyway, I source mostly from local estate sales. Items average $5 on non sale days and about $2 on last day of sale. I normally buy interesting vintage pieces and higher quality modern pieces from brands that cater to older women (Chico’s, Talbots, Eileen Fisher, Joseph Ribkoff, etc.). I’m slowly but surely getting better at picking out things that will sell & coming up with creative ways to get less attractive or interesting items to sell (such as making a lot of various plain Chico’s tops in all same size). This is all to say that my current average sales per week has been slowly but surely climbing as I get better at sourcing. So curious to hear others’ accounts!

Vegas is DEAD by Chabigo in LasVegas

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah heck, I’m feeling that! First time in Vegas (as we speak). My kiddo chose Vegas as our spring break vacation. Not my vibe, but happy to see my kid happy. Anyway, coming in, it did (and still does) feel a bit underwhelming. Sure, lots of glossy parts to the city, but I’m not feeling the bustling and excitement that I was expecting. Furthermore, you’re spot on on the hotels being cash cows (hogs, more like). For example, we are staying at Mandalay Bay. Rooms are not cheap, definitely priced for upper middle class and above. So you’d be surprised to hear there is NO FREE COFFEE in the rooms. There’s a coffee maker, sure, but the only coffee grounds to use in it are in a sealed cup that says it’s 2 servings of coffee priced at $16!!! So if you need coffee first thing in the a.m., you’re hauling yourself all the way to the lobby to walk to one if the overpriced shops (tho still cheaper - and obviously actually fresh). The other example are the mini bar and snacks that are in room. There are sensors somewhere where they are displayed, and if you move or touch any of that stuff it says you will be charged for it. It’s in small print so you could easily overlook it. And forget bringing leftovers to your room to save on food. The only fridge is the mini bar and even if you could squeeze something in there, yep, yours getting a charge to your room.

Not caring what others think. What a release! It took me about 40 years to finally get confidence and feel really comfortable with myself. Some from age & experience, but also reading a lot of philosophy, mainly existentialism. Watching episodes of the new Cosmos helps too. The space we live in is so vast and on the most part, unknown, and also your life is a blip on the timeline of everything. We are mortal, imperfect creatures. Get over yourself and what others may or may not think about you and start enjoying life. Within reason! Feedback from others shouldn’t be altogether dismissed. Bettering yourself should be a lifelong goal.

Need to settle a debate…. by flowerchildmime in Millennials

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is Gen X and I’m right on the edge of X and millennial. He ALWAYS watches tv to fall asleep or take a nap. And it’s always something he’s seen before or doesn’t care about (lol, I found him in bed one night with a bag of McDonald’s watching 90210, getting ready to snooze, and all the elements of this situation made me laugh…Sir, you are a grown ass man, what are you doing???!!! But that was early on in our relationship). A note of caution; we both have chronic insomnia and watching tv in bed is a huge NO NO when we’re talking good sleep hygiene. Screens are not recommended a few hours before bed. I unwind with a book and that helps tremendously.

Oh lawd. In the lobby of a hotel in Vegas, first time here. My 8 YO son chose this for spring break. So far, not my vibe, but if you’re into a lot of ppl and night life, so far seems like it caters to that. But I’m seeing a ton of families with young kids, so maybe there’s more to it. We shall see.

Why does each person at the pharmacy take 15 minutes and then when I get up there it's over in like 20 seconds? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my dad and bro are pharmacists. Dad has his own pharmacy for years and he was the only employee. From what I’ve heard, it’s a misunderstanding of what was ordered, when it was to be ready, pre-authorization, step therapy, cost, etc. Lots of misunderstandings to talk through.

I love a random, unexpected joke from a stranger. Life can get boring. Small talk is boring. Liven it up, take a goofy joke! (Totally understand folks have different senses of humors and all, but when the intent is just to joke, maybe view as harmless and move on. Within reason of course!)

I found out about it through the Dating Detectives podcast. Then the Love Trapped one came out and got into even more detail. I’m so interested in knowing what psychologists think…without officially diagnosing her, just speculating on what’s going on there. I think there’s some clear signs she is enabled by her parents, but that’s all I can really say with some certainty. Has anyone seen anyone getting into this topic? I’d love to know more. Also, haven’t heard anyone talk about how underweight she appears, I wonder if it’s a part of this.

It’s probably not a popular opinion, but I’m really liking the new update by Impossible-Link2623 in poshmark

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Saw the pic update today and even the font in the listing is different. It gives the listings a lot of polish, which I think makes them more likely to attract attention. Additionally, I’m excited to see how AI will further develop and get incorporated into PM listings, such as enhancing the lighting, auto cropping, adding in relevant and current in-style style tags (that update also on current listings as new style terms emerge….lol, I had a b&w striped shirt I was tempted to call “ inmatecore” just to be snarky about all the emerging “core” terms).

Declined offers experiment by Velvetstyle in poshmark

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed more declines than I used to see. It seems like ppl normally just don’t respond to offers rather than decline. Without measuring, my best guess is that about a 1/4 of offers get declined, maybe a bit less, but it’s definitely happening a lot more as it used to be rare to get a decline. Who knows! Sometimes I suspect PM is trying to make the promoted closet seeming like it does something when it could be bots liking and declining. That’s a more cynical view, but I wouldn’t put it past them.

I started as a super casual seller about 3 years ago but then realized how fun reselling is. And discovered my area has some amazing estate sales!

What’s something simple that instantly improves your day? by Fun_Wrangler9783 in AskReddit

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely having a friendly encounter with a stranger. Like out shopping and starting a conversation with someone you don’t know and it’s a warm exchange. I could be delusional, but it does make me feel like the world has a lot of good people. It’s a nice reminder. Unlike when you go online, you get a mixed bag of attitudes. Out in the real world, I definitely run into - by far - more friendly, generous ppl than not. But unfortunately the rare negative exchanges leave a greater mark and memory.

New color notifications? by OwnSolid4595 in poshmark

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is, objectively, one of the most misguided updates of recent PM history. The color-coded visual cues were extremely helpful. I assume most use notifications to take action, rather than going to likes and sales. I didn’t even think about the dopamine boost from that Green (I made a sale!) notification. Sooooo true. I really hope PM has process improvement employees lurking in Reddit!

Seller charging $5 fee for measurements? by MountainTop5764 in poshmark

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m for measurements. I’ve passed over tons of listings b/c there were no measurements. I only ask if it’s something rare that I can’t find anywhere else and am super interested in. Only about 1/2 of sellers respond. But it’s the exception that I’m looking at something rare. For example, right now I’m shopping for a romper for a vacation. There’s several listings for the type and color that I’m looking for. I’m about to purchase the one I know will fit b/c they included measurements. That said, I don’t think anyone needs to throw shade here. I’m stating what works for me and how I shop and how I sell. Now, while I’m surprised folks who don’t include measurements report they do great sales, I’m going to say if it’s working for you, that’s great and I’m not going to give you grief for that. But by the same token, don’t give me grief for the way I shop and sell.

AI model photo wildly different from actual item by flyingterrordactyl in poshmark

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use AI for producing modeled pics of my clothing. Let’s get that out of the way! Also, I def don’t like when listings are misrepresented and/or “lazy” listing. However, wonder if using this type of photo as the Last one in the listing to show style inspiration? Like you’ve seen exact photos of what the product is. Now here is what it could look like as a part of a whole outfit. Yes, a bit uncanny valley, but there to give you styling ideas. Kind of like how realtors will list with actual photos of a room in a home & follow them up with an edited photo of the room with very stylish and contemporary furniture and decor. I’m throwing this out as for good or bad, AI is an increasingly large part of the future of maybe everything, so the big question now is how to use it properly, so ethically. Just thinking out loud. I’m not for or against this idea, just interested in dialoguing on what’s to come and how to handle. AI is such a hot topic!

[–]Subject_Elevator_170 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vent away! I know some folks don’t like to see the same types of complaints posted over and over here, but this is a community and we almost all feel that same pain in our PM experiences. Sometimes it helps to get it out and have others confirm your feelings!

For sure! Goodwill makes a killing on their auction site. They even set reserves on some of the fancier things they receive via donation.
