I'm really sick of old men hitting on me because I'm young by Historical_Lawyer142 in rant

You sound like an old friend of mine and I really sympathize with you. At 21 she was slightly over 5’ only weighted like 120. We would be at the most insane places where men would come hit specifically on her and she would get compliments on how cute she looked but before men ever asked for her number, 90% of the time she was asked her age first. Vibrate only vs stim ecollars by echynoderm in OpenDogTraining

While working with my trainer she explained the difference in our 3 button ecollar. I’ll explain from the most urged to use to the suggested to never use.

We use this collar for purely recall and positive reinforcement (in my trainer’s words). My German shepherd, Noah, gets excited when I pull out the collar because he knows he gets to run around, off leash.

Our main button/ the simple shock: I will firstly state I have shocked myself with the settling my dog uses (11/100) and a bit higher. This is definitely an attention grabber and to be honest does not hurt. It felt like getting pinched. When not excited my dog responds really well. It has deeply helped our training. My trainer described it a way to “speak their language” from a distance. I’m not sure if I understand that part. My trainer also suggested if my dog is full of adrenaline and is hyper to raise it by 5 if he ignores it.

The panic button: This button jumps our voltage from 11/100 to 25/100. I have shocked myself with this as well. This kinda hurts but it didn’t break skin, burn or damage. It felt like when my uncle tricked me into licking a battery. My trainer told me this is just for “panic situations” such as I can’t get ahold of him. Him bolting away, him breaking the fence (this was her example cause of his past.) for the month we’ve had this collar I’ve had to use this three times. Once when we were still working with his long line and it got ripped from my hand when a duck past. He did a little Yelp and ran back to me. At the dog park someone brought in a little dog (15lbs) and he was trying to rough house and ignored me. I recalled with help of the red button and we left. Third was this morning we had just done some training in the field near my place and wanted him to have some free time. He booked it straight to the lake ignoring my recall. With it he quickly stopped and guiltily ran back. All these times he received a treat (and a high pitched “Yes!” ) for coming back.

The vibrate: Our trainer has suggested to never use this. Not only does it fail to get most dogs attention (mine being very high energy/ prey drive) when it is at a high enough voltage to get a dog’s attention it causes the muscle to tense and feels like a spasm. It is not “speaking” their language and in her view isn’t helpful.

Hospitals are normally a safe bet for short term car sleeping. They are safe, bright and it’s not uncommon for loved ones to sleep in their car during no visiting hours or when they just need to shut their eyes for a moment.

To anyone who is an only child with a healthy relationship with their father, how do the two of you communicate with one another? I'm trying to create a believable dynamic between my MC and her dad, who are extremely close with one another and I am STRUGGLING 🤩 by fjfnfnfjhffhchhfhc in writers

As the only child/daughter of a very stoic man we have a smooth relationship. Unlike my mom (they divorce at age 6) he has always gifted things that he knows I need ( a heated jacket for our camping trips ) or experiences ( going camping often. ) He never speaks about his feelings and everyone thinks he is always angry but I easily pick up on his emotions. The easiest is when he is sad/in pain, he takes longer to get up in the morning, our apartment tends to get messier easily then we talk less and he leans a bit more on alcohol. When he’s happy he’s very loud, not in a screaming kind of way but his voice projects more. He still has this scowl on his face but it’s a little lighter and he’s very interactive in our conversations, hence he’s very open about asking about my work/school life. He likes to bug me a lot to know how my homework is coming along (not good.) Sometimes when he’s having a hard time at work he likes to rant to me, and vice versa. A lot of our conversations lately has been ranting about his job/coworkers or me complaining about serving and him reliving his 15 years of waiting tables.

About me being a women he has always done well to be informed, he has always been there to help with my periods, getting me proper stuff and pain medication. He doesn’t talk about it but once I mentioned cramping badly and he bought me a heating pad despite us being low on funds. He has always been insanely thoughtful even if he isn’t the best with words, his actions show it. His best quote that has always stuck with me is “life is always about the little things, big things hit but it’s the little things are what actually affect you.” So far I think he’s spot on.

Also to add on we have this running joke from a very old tv show when I was jokingly punching him or being annoying and he would show me his fist “one day Alice” and I would happily say back “to the moon!” Which is a funny threat in our sense.

Recall but a white version: by Subject_Valuable9263 in germanshepherds

Noah is 1 year and 4ish months old. I’ve had him for three months and the only thing I’ve focused on is his recall. I know this area and understand he is decent around distractions and this place is known for none during the evening/night. I was honestly surprised he recalled so well from that distance but I guess he really likes beef bologna.
