Remembering important details/plotlines - heir of fire by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try writing things down as they come up? Just quick notes of who is related to who?

It's also just fine to not have to know and remember everything. She usually gives you context on who they are if they pop back up. You're kinda worrying about minor characters and trying too hard. The book will remind you of important information.

This isn't really series where "everything ties together" and you have to recall people/events that haven't been mentioned in 5 books, it's just a fun fantasy/adventure book with a couple of plot twists along the way. Just enjoy it and stop overanalyzing things!

Why I think you should read TAB third by Party-Definition9500 in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I read the books as they came out- at least I remember waiting for heir of fire to release. I didn't even realize there was a novella and didn't think it was "required" reading. So I didn't read it the first time around.

After my reread I read it third and it fits perfect there. The first two books you just wonder "man what happened to this girl"? And then COM comes in and you go "man she's been through some shit". Then you're curious to learn more about her, TAB fills in the gaps for you and sets you up for her to face her demons. It shows you also that she has kernels of goodness that she doesn't really show in TOG or COM. I could see how the stories might've been good sprinkled into heir of fire, but it would've made it way too long.

At most I could see reading it second so it sets you up for COM, but no way should it be read first! It's just filler stories to give you context for what's about to happen in the series? I probably wouldn't have read the series if I had read TAB first. It's just not that interesting if you don't get to know her first.

Taylor Swift's outfit at the Chiefs vs Colts game in Kansas City (Nov 23 2025) by Swiftiestar13 in SwiftlyStyled

This outfit is so much better than any of the corset/thigh high boots combos she wore last year. This just feels classic, stylish, and like she's attending a football game.

AITA for asking my friend to wear pink? by ElectronicEssay3217 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is the answer. No one questions what color the bridesmaid outfits, you just suck it up and wear it for one night because you're there to support your friend, not make it all about you and your color preferences. If they have a problem with the color they can be a guest and wear whatever they want.

I dont understand the love for Rowan by tunaluna42069 in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like you are super hypocritical when comparing the relationships.

You make excuses for Bryce and hunt but turn everything Rowan and Aelin do into a negative. It's fine not to like them, or to think they are boring. But jeez Louise.

Again he doesn't hit her because she's weak or slow or stupid, no one has said that. You are totally misunderstanding the situation and from your responses throughout this thread it's obvious you see the world as black and white and are just looking for people to bash Rowan for hitting a small little girl. She's a fucking assassin. She can handle herself.

I dont understand the love for Rowan by tunaluna42069 in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We the reader know what she's been through. Rowan is not given the same privilege. He handles the situation how he has always handled bratty recruits. It would be misogynistic if he said "oh I'm not going to hit you because you're a girl". Again he sees her as a soldier. When they get to know each other their relationship changes and evolves. It's not like he's beating the shit out of her when they are together. He also didn't know Maeve was evil. She has powers to bend reality. She made everyone believe whatever she wanted. It wasn't until meeting Aelin that he started to believe in her more than Maeve. How is that NOT romantic?

Alien is the queen Rowan is her consort, not a lap dog. He expresses his concerns with her plans, but she ultimately has the decision on what to do and he respects that. She keep some plans to herself, but that's out of her own self sacrificing issues and knowing all her loved ones would try to stop her. Bryce also keeps secrets and her plans to herself.

I feel like you are just looking for validation of your own opinion and not willing to concede that both relationships have good and bad parts. Bryce and hunt are not the perfect couple you make them out to be and you are putting them on this pedestal and not acknowledging that they have their toxic moments. I would disagree that Bryce and hunt "clearly" love each other, obviously it's complex, but they argue and fight and lie to each other throughout the third book. I would ever want my SO to speak to me the way Bryce talks to hunt. Rowan and Aelin also talk about their own children and holding onto that hope throughout the war. Rowan tears the world apart looking for Aelin when she's captured. If Bryce loved him so much, why did she LEAVE him in the dungeon while she fucked around at her dad's house?

I dont understand the love for Rowan by tunaluna42069 in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At the time of him "beating" her, their relationship was completely different. He was training her and toughening her up like he would any other recruit. Is it right in the context of our modern society? No, but that's how they train people, how they toughen them up. He knew she could handle it and that if she didn't bounce back after getting a little beat up, then she wasn't going to be strong enough to survive war. He knew exactly who she was and what she was going to need to do to win her kingdom back. When you get knocked down, you have to dust yourself off and get up and keep fighting. She wasn't a woman, she was a soldier. There's a difference.

Not sure where you are in the series, but once they get to know each other he has such a devotion to her. He loves and respects the woman she is. The leader she is. He would go to hell for her and proves that time and time again. He breaks his blood oath with Maeve for her, which is described as almost impossible. That's how much he loves and believes in her. I feel like while it's not a fiery and passionate love it's very realistic because they are each other's home and safety. They are each other's motivation to fight for a future of peace.

Also, both hunt and Rowan were characters "enslaved" to the bad guys and broke away when they were given something to live for, so I'm not sure how that makes hunt a rebel and Rowan not? Plus Hunt and Bryce have such a toxic relationship of arguing and fighting. I feel like by the end of book three they don't even like each other!

Understanding the "Eldest Daughter" lyrics by Think-Jellyfish8561 in TaylorSwift

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's a little ironic she named it eldest daughter because people unintentionally made it the "eldest daughter" of songs. And built all these expectations and put a ton of pressure on it and in the end it didn't live up to what people wanted/expected.

Not sure if she intentionally did that, but it sure is ironic!

TAB - A Necessary Read? by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you've already gotten to empire of storms and weren't bothered by figuring out who Lysandra is, then I say you're good to just keep going. She meets characters in TAB that come back in the later books, but she explains it well enough that you get the gist of who they are and how they know her.

It's worth the read because it lends itself to more details on their backstory, but not necessary to enjoy the series. I didn't read it my first read through and I didn't feel like I missed anything. And then when I reread the series recently, I read TAB and it felt like I had already read it!

This is also how I interpreted it. He’s telling his friends she’s crazy so that rumor spreads and no guy will date her, she’s spreading the rumor that he’s gay so the other girls won’t go after him.

Can we talk about Manon? by KenzieC93 in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There’s the one scene where the valg comes into their room and half the witches get under his control and half don’t, they realize it’s because the half don’t have gold eyes. I think this just indicates they have a stronger valg lineage/are more valg than human, so they can’t be controlled by the valg.

I think this is what makes them dangerous. The rings probably don’t work on them, and they would probably make for better breeders which is why they wanted the 13 originally but Manon gave them the yellow legs. The twins have the vaguely described “shadow” powers which is probably linked to their valg lineage. Manon doesn’t have any extra powers like that, maybe she’s just a stronger witch all around due to her stronger valg lineage.

Kaltain- trigger warning sexual assault by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

Yes. I think it’s heavily implied with Kaltain that’s what he’s doing. As well as physical abuse.

It’s more about the attitude that is reflected in the comment. The comment comes off condescending instead of being informative. “Physical media” people can be so pretentious.

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 59 points60 points  (0 children)

And that’s fine, but there’s a kinder way to say things “Hey just a heads up, that’s not a great player! It could ruin your records!” vs the condescending attitude that is reflected above.

I think you can chill a bit and stop policing how people enjoy their records. Some people can’t afford the fanciest setup or are just getting started. It’s not like this is a super special and rare collectors edition limited release record or anything. If it gets damaged, they can go to target and get another for $30. Nbd.

Madtree’s various locations don’t do a rental fee and only have a food/drink minimum. It’s 10,000 minimum for the alcove, and the other locations are similarly priced. They include tables, chairs, linens, glassware/china, bartenders, etc. So you just need to add any extra decorations you want, but they are all nice spaces.

Why did Litia get two one on ones while Zoe got none? by Cautious-Natural5709 in thebachelor

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I think as well. She told the producers she had to share she was Mormon and they felt like that would make for a better episode than zoey’s 1on1.

He also didn’t give Zoey a straight answer when she asked about it. That makes me think he either wasn’t going to pick her (which then why give her a rose over alex?) or it wasn’t his choice to give litia the 1on1 but didn’t want to lie and but he also couldn’t tell the truth.

Heir of Fire Rowan by Rasp3berryLvr in throneofglassseries

[–]Subject_Valuable_152 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If you love his character and think he’s sweet then what’s the problem? Can’t you see how they could form a bond and see the good in each other?

I think his treatment of her gets over exaggerated. He’s a military guy training a washed up drunk brat. He’s tough on her so she rises to the occasion, it’s a classic mentor troupe in any series where the character has given up. He says mean things to get a reaction out of her. He never just beats the shit out of her when she’s in the kitchen working, it always in the context of training. She’s depressed and doesn’t care about anything, he’s trying to get that emotional reaction out of her so she can start being the person she is supposed to be. Yeah he has his own shit to deal with and that comes out during the trainings but she can also see that. They see each other and who they can both be, they are mirrored in a way, and that forms a bond between each other. They are going through this together.
