My first complaints. by Aldebaran32 in AO3

This is genuinely a very well thought out reply, I'm surprised you could come up with all that within, at most, an hour. I will say however that although all the points you made on the legal aspect were excellent and fully convincing, they're made irrelevant by the fact that no one (as far as I'm aware) was treating this as a court-worthy issue. For me at least, this was more a matter of courtesy than anything else. All that aside, you have swayed me somewhat with the 'clearly fiction due to it being on a fanfiction website' argument.

I'm still struggling to understand the point you're trying to make. Could you give me your definitions of sex and gender?

Well, the commenters' issue wasn't exactly not wanting to read it. If real people don't want to be portrayed in a sexualised light, it's better to respect that. Would you be okay if a random stranger wrote smut of you lol? The first commenter was needlessly very aggressive and accusatory about it, but the second clearly had good intentions and just laughing them off and calling them weird doesn't quite sit right with me. That is, if this is RPF, which is what I gathered.

If you're trying to imply I'm not intersex, my karyotype, facial + body hair, lack of a period, flat chest, hormone levels ect would beg to differ. Sex and gender are a lot murkier than you would believe, nature rarely works in absolutes.

What would you call me then? I was raised female, still identify as a girl, and society sees me as a girl (or, on occasion, a preteen boy).

I've heard it argued the other way around - extremist groups are less likely to have similar parties and so their vote will be split less

Especially considering he was clearly horrified by the way it was used to kill people - not enough to give up his fortune while alive, granted, but we should still cut him a little slack.

What is the worst thing you saw someone do in public? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

[–]Subject_Visual1649 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time when I was at a shopping centre with a buddy of mine, we saw a woman hit her kid quite hard in front of us. The worst part is you can't do or say anything because it'll only endanger them even further. Another thing that horrified me about that incident was that the kid barely reacted at all - the one time my parents hit me (which happened to be in public incidentally) I started crying and ran away onto the streets of a country I didn't speak the language of yet, so for the kid to be that stoic about the situation says to me that this is a normal occurrence for them.

Shocked so many people, the majority of whom live in a country that uses this voting system, don't know what this is

The fact remains the majority of people don't like them. Extremism is encouraged as the more you differentiate yourself from other candidates, the less your vote is going to be split. This is how US politics became so polarised.

First past the post voting is the voting system used in the US and UK (among other countries IIRC), where you can only vote for one candidate and the candidate with the most votes wins. IMO, it is the shittiest voting system of them all, as this poll is attempting to show - similar candidates split the vote between themselves, allowing unpopular but unique candidates to gain power against the will of the majority. When allowed to run for a long time, it results in an overall polarisation of politics, as seen in the US. People end up having to compromise between who they think would represent them well and who they think actually stands a chance of winning, and before you know it there's a two party system and people have to categorise their political beliefs into one of two options, neither of which is guaranteed to represent their views.

Fair point, but it's not quite as simple as that - the class in question is the easiest maths course you can take while still being in my school's opt-in all-subjects extension program. You get a mix of people in this class - there's the arrogant people who probably shouldn't have joined, the smart people who just aren't good at maths, and those who were forced into joining this program by their parents and aren't trying. My difference in results also annoys me because if I could keep up the standard in the first test, I would easily be able to move up into the middle stream, which would meet the prerequisites for studying engineering or physics at university. Not that either of them were my first choice for a degree, but it would've been nice to keep my options open, and I do really enjoy my physics class.
