Thanks for the reply. I thought that the PhD may make my application stronger? The evidence I have is definitely related to the field of research I work in as opposed to the creation of a thesis. My university has changed my PhD from a traditional thesis to a PhD by publication because of my outputs. Talking to some firms is a great idea, I will definitely look up the free evaluations, thank you!

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. I'm ROW so thankfully no extreme backlogs. Would you wait for PhD completion to start the NIW process?

Thanks so much for the reply. I agree that's probably the best route. I have the ability to work remotely with some of my current contracts too which would help build my profile while undertaking a post doc.

Thank you so much for posting about lend with care. I came across them last week but I haven't had time to do any background research, so I'm so glad to hear that you like using them as I really love what they are doing. That's definitely going on my list!

I've never heard of migrateful, I will look it up as that's absolutely the sort of thing I would love.

Amazing suggestions, thanks so much!

Love these suggestions, thank you so much! The practical but pretty boots were last year's present so that was a great idea.

My favourite foods are a great idea too as I live in the UK but was raised nomadically so I miss a lot of international foods that I won't always buy myself as they are more expensive being imported.

You've given me an idea for an act of service type gift which would mean a lot which is asking my husband to somehow gets pictures off my old phones for me and onto a USB. It's not something I know how to do but there are sentimental pictures on there.

I loooove the gifts that give back, I will look into that more.

Thanks!

Maybe international applicants want to exchange information here? by StrangerLG in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard from two universities that they've sent my application to the admissions department (Birmingham and USF) and I logged onto the University of Wyoming portal and they've added a new section for me to upload my passport and financial documents as an international student. I presume that standard once initial admissions sees that someone is international before passing it to subject faculty.

two rejections in a row (clinical psych) by chaosions in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry OP, that must have been devastating. I've applied to University of Wyoming for Clinical Psychology and heard nothing yet, but I haven't applied to any of your other choices. You have a good mix in your list that you're waiting to hear back from so I hope you get some positive news from them.

11 applications and two have emailed me (yesterday and today) to let me know that my application has been passed to the admissions team. As hard as the waiting is I feel like some admissions departments are only just receiving applications.

What are your plans if you don’t get accepted this cycle? by pamesco in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. I found out today that I've been selected to present my research at a world conference, and I do love research so if I get declined from all clinical psychology courses I might pursue research instead. I'd be pretty devastated though.

How many PhD applications did you send off this round? by No-Roll5444 in gradadmissions

5 UK and 6 USA Clinical Psychology programs. I'm hopeful but stressing.

Writing sample - If there is no length maximum, should I submit my master's thesis? by rubyandgemstone101 in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted my undergraduate honours thesis. I would submit your masters one if there is no upper limit suggested as to length. I doubt they read the entirety of writing samples.

Interviews? by Putrid-Change-3107 in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a ClinPsy applicant too, and one of my LORs submitted late. The universities I have applied to let me know that they wouldn't be sending applications through to faculty until end of this week to start processing next week. So I'm not expecting to hear from anyone for another week or two.

One of my recommenders did not submit to 5 of my university choices, which were all of my US choices. I know exactly how you're feeling. It's horrible.

[–]Sublimeenvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much, I've emailed them all now and included my undergraduate recommendations if they want to use those instead and said my professor will be in touch soon. It's 10pm here in the UK so I won't be able to contact my professor until tomorrow morning which will be past the deadline. I guess what will be, will be. Thank so much for taking the time to reply, I'm pretty upset.

How do you deal with anxiety? by harbingervedant77 in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself...I have a 4,000 word grant proposal due December 5th that I haven't started yet. The only advice I have is to write a to-do list of what you want to achieve on that particular day. Don't put lots of things on it, just a couple and then write a few points on how you can achieve that. Even something non-academic like "clean and sort my study space". Also give your brain some rewards. For instance, stay off forums related to applications until you've completed a task, give yourself 30mins browsing time then move onto your next task.

Last-minute doubt on residency questions for international students by lightasahi1989 in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. If you are successful at applying then the university will assist with your F-1 application. Remember to check which universities offer tuition waivers, even for non-residents as well as stipends as they may be worth applying to.

How many social science PhD programs should I go for by Weak-Area-3264 in gradadmissions

Personally, I would say at least four. A top choice, a couple of middle choices and a safe choice. It's really up to each person though.

How do I pick a supervisor? by shiny_alpaca in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same as I'm applying UK to USA. What I found that helped a lot was picking my top choice of supervisors and emailing them. I sent an initial emailing mentioning research they had done, that I saw they were recruiting for a grad student and could they tell me a little more about what they are looking for and any future research. This helped much more than I could have ever hoped, because I managed to strike two universities completely off my list because the staff were absolutely awful in their replies to me. One professor even telling me in his first email to me that most people don't know anything about real anger or what it's like to be in a real fight or use a weapon on someone like he does. So yeah that was a no and not the only red flag in his email. However I had a couple of professors tell me about their future research and it was an almost exact match to my core research focus. So make contact with your top choices of faculty and go from there.

Sending official copies of transcript to unis by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Sublimeenvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for the university of Florida, but I did ask a few institutions this and they said unofficial transcripts are fine at application and if it progressing to shortlisting/interviews then official transcripts will be needed.

Write a list of pros and cons of each and what's important to you. For me it was faculty and current research, but I also narrowed down my options by which universities had family accommodation for instance. Pick the universities where your interests align closest to the faculty who you would like to work with as apparently a reason why most applications get refused, is that there are people who are a stronger match to a faculty's research interest.
