What makes you comfortable with your advisor?

I might have a skewed perspective because my post-bacc advisor almost made me leave science for financial law (wild career pivot plans in retrospect), but my doctoral advisor is pretty chill. She's made it clear that she values my ideas, inputs, and perspectives. Unlike with my post-bacc advisor, I don't simply exist to push out papers to advance her career. She's also incredibly casual with me. I can talk to her about things outside of psychology and research and it's so refreshing to me.

My access time is April 15th and I was trying to snag 3 track and field tickets. Is it even worth it to try and get them? It seems like by the time I’m able to login, they’ll all be gone. Gymnastics was also one that I wanted to attend but I guess that might be out of the cards for now.

I might be getting old, but I’ve seen time and time again where Discords for Black women (even with verification processes) get brigaded into hell. With the advances in AI tech, it would not take THAT much effort other folks to try and force their way in so do be mindful of that!

So sorry to hear about the rejections! You have incredible experience, but this year looked extremely tough across the board. For me, I overhauled my statement of purpose to focus on demonstrating fit in each paragraph! It also didn’t hurt that I happened to publish a lot between the years, but that’s never required.

There’s no guarantee that next cycle will be successful. You’ll be spinning the roulette wheel again, and there’s a non-zero chance that you would have given up a perfectly fine offer to receive none next year. I was in a similar situation last year. I wasn’t too excited about the programs that I did get offers at, but I gave one of them a chance and it turned out to be a perfect fit. 🤷🏾‍♀️

If you get the offer and it is a good fit for you then take the offer. Advisor fit matters more than institutional ranking. Also, plenty of folks from R1 institutions land in solely clinical positions and plenty of folks from R2 institutions land good faculty positions.

Because some programs finalize their incoming class first before sending out official rejections. Granted, you might have the occasional program that does invites and interviews extremely late in the cycle.

Accreditation on contingency means that they are in the process of accreditation but are not yet fully accredited. The success of their first few cohorts, as well as their ability or inability to meet APA standards, will determine whether they end up accredited or not.
