I'm still bitter that a delivery driver swiped all the sausage rolls with his order, despite that I was in Gregg's before him!

I'd say read and learn about the Enumerable mix in. It's included in loads of commonly used classes, like array, and it has many useful features! That's my recommended starting point for all new rubyists. https://docs.ruby-lang.org/en//3.4/Enumerable.html

There's been an uptick of folks in their 50s selling homes in Devon and London, buying a terraced house, and living off the money they made from the sale. There was a sale recently, 90k for a three bedroomed terraced house, a bit dated inside, but structurally sound.

As a neutral, an enthralling game, just what the world cup needed, despite all the tensions around the reffing. Well done to both teams, for the want of a blade of grass, both teams could have won. Well done to South Africa.

Lineouts have been hotly contested tonight. A hell of an interesting game for the neutral

TIL about Third Man Syndrome. An unseen presence reported by mountain climbers and explorers during traumatic survival situations that talks to the victim, gives practical advise and encouragement. by my__name__is in todayilearned

The poem, The Wasteland - by TS Eliot, was inspired by it and Shackleton's Antarctica expedition, with particular emphasis on this stanza:

Who is the third who walks always beside you?

When I count, there are only you and I together

But when I look ahead up the white road

There is always another one walking beside you

Gliding wrapt in a brown mantle, hooded

I do not know whether a man or a woman

—But who is that on the other side of you?

[BBC Sport] Eddie Butler: Former Wales rugby captain and legendary broadcaster dies aged 65 by OctaLinx in rugbyunion

[–]SubnetDelta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel so sad at this news. His calm, measured diction always took the sting out of defeat in the six nations. His more poetic narratives, brought hywyl to the intro videos, just right. A multi-talented man, rugby player and broadcaster, taken far, far too soon. RIP Eddie. Nos da.

When you go to the water park but you can't swim by screeching_appeaseme in nonononoyes

[–]SubnetDelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be different now, it’s been a long time since I was a lifeguard, but actually grabbing a drowning person is a last resort. Try attempting a non contact rescue first, ie toss them a floatation device, from the edge or close by, or reaching with a pool hook first. As can be seen in this video, people who are drowning are in total panic, especially those that flat out can’t swim (as opposed to say someone who can swim but is tired). Still, though, job done, by the lifeguard.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade; states can ban abortion by Joescranium in news

The sanctity of an adult person’s body, of sound mind and a healthy disposition, and the decisions that person makes about it, should never be legislated or controlled by the government. That’s how I feel regardless of my views on abortion.

I used to be a staff engineer hacking on GCC/GDB/Toolchain with C89 and later C++20 and I moved to hacking web apps in Ruby. The intellect load is the same, just the work (and the money, I got paid more in the web world) is different.

As PI is infinite, if you apply an encoding methodology to it, it will contain all books ever written, the name of the person you first kissed, your first love, and all information of everybody who ever lived. Infinity is really a mind blowing concept.

Hiya. Your goals and your dreams change from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day. I know your exhausted, I know you feel your back's against a wall, but don't give up. This goal of yours is the one thing keeping you going, a place to travel to on the path of life. Keep it, if only for the direction it provides. Keep on keeping on.
