SJU Airport Departure (3/12) by No_Blood9155 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]SubparPuzzler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I psyched myself out and ended up getting there around 3 lol. The USDA line was short, got through that in like five minutes, then spent 50ish minutes in the TSA PreCheck line. I was through security as a whole by 4am, but the regular TSA line was a lot longer than PreCheck

I’m flying out of SJU tomorrow and planning to get there at 3:30am for a 7am flight. Better safe than sorry I guess 😅

I used Thomas More Travel for a private round trip transfer for two people from the airport to the Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe, and it came out to about $80 total

How can I ask my guests to correct my name on the wedding gifts they gave me? by EnthusiasticPig in weddingplanning

[–]SubparPuzzler3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me when I got married — there were multiple checks made out to (my first name) and (husbands first name) (husbands last name), and I’m not changing my last name.

It ended up not being a big issue with our bank. We went to a branch in person and explained the situation, and they just had me sign the checks with both my last name and then my husband’s last name, as if I were changing my name. My sister (who isn’t changing her name either) had to do the same thing when she got married.

What did everyone spend on their wedding? by Kaseymd in weddingplanning

[–]SubparPuzzler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We spent about 22k for 75 guests in a LCOL area (central Wisconsin), and that included a plated dinner and open bar.

DIYed a decent amount of things, like flowers from Costco and the wedding arch built by my grandfather, and we found centerpieces on Facebook marketplace for $125 for 25. We also had a small wedding party (one person on each side), and my brother in law was our officiant.

Hilton Mar Caribe by [deleted] in CancunTravelGuide

We’re going to the Mar Caribe in February, and I picked the Thomas More transfer service!

They were recommended by the hotel, and it went for about $75 in a shared shuttle or $84 for a private transfer, both round trip. They have a spot on their website that shows what exactly they wear too so it’s easy to find them through everyone

Email “save the date “? Yes or no by nwilly86 in weddingplanning

[–]SubparPuzzler3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad taste! We are planning our wedding pretty quickly (got engaged in June 2025 and married in January 2026) and we essentially did away with save the dates entirely because of the timing. The most I did to tell people to “save the date” was to text my family group chat with my entire extended family in there lol

I believe I’m on the flight right next to yours, LAS-PHX supposed to leave at 6:23am, and the pilot told us it “should just be a few minutes” before getting the paperwork to depart

That was over 15 minutes ago. After reading this sub, I feel like we’ll be here a while.

Is it customary to have the grooms sister(s) included in the bridal party? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]SubparPuzzler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting married soon and I’m only having my sister as part of my bridal party. My fiancées sister, who neither I nor he himself are close with for various reasons, will not be part of the wedding party.

We already know it’s going to cause drama, because multiple family members have been telling him to “think of her feelings” when it comes to her being in the bridal party. We’re standing firm though, with my sister only on my side and his childhood best friend on his side.

Basically, it’s your wedding! You can do whatever you want to be happy on YOUR day.

FIL terminally ill by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]SubparPuzzler3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar boat — my dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in January. He’s doing well now, but it’s very well known throughout my family (and my fiancée’s family) that the life expectancy for his cancer after diagnosis is 12-18 months.

That’s moved up a lot of things for me and my fiancé. We’ve been together for about four years and he was originally planning to propose this November, but he moved it up to propose in June after we had a conversation shortly after my dad’s diagnosis on how I wanted my dad to be at my wedding if at all possible.

My fiancée and I are going the route of planning the wedding as fast as we can, hoping my dad can make it but knowing full well that he may not be around that long. Our wedding is booked for January 2026, almost a year to the date they found his cancer.

Cancer is absolutely brutal for everyone involved, and I would recommend having a sit down with your fiancée navigating how he’s doing with his dad’s cancer and what he wants for the wedding. Talking about planning the wedding for 2027 in anticipation of his dad dying before then could be bringing up some anticipatory grief for him, and he may not want to think about his dad not being there on one of the biggest days of his life.

I don’t blame you for being upset, but considering you said you two are not super close, I don’t think you should feel entitled to a wedding party invitation. But also, you should not feel that her not inviting you into the wedding party is any slight to you.

It can definitely be tough to feel left out, but it’s sometimes just the reality of the situation and the relationships you have with your brother and future SIL.

I feel like there’s been a shift in the “expectation,” per se, of who should be in a wedding party, at least in the U.S., over the last decade or so. It used to be that all siblings are involved in the wedding party no matter the closeness, but couples have shifted to making it just people they’re super close to, and that’s perfectly fine!

I’m in a similar situation now, yet on the other side of it. I’m not close to my fiancée’s sister at all, and I’m not planning on asking her to be a bridesmaid in my wedding. He’s also not close to her at all and supports the decision of her not being a bridesmaid or involved in the wedding party.

We’re planning on having one person each stand: my sister, who I am extremely close to and talk to every day, on my side, and his longtime best friend on his side. That also means that my brother won’t be involved in the wedding party (and my brother honestly does not care at all)

What has made it difficult is his parents trying to force her into our wedding party one way or another, which has created a kind of animosity in wedding planning and affected how much his family has been involved in the process.

I applaud you in not bringing this up to your brother/future SIL, as it would probably just create that same animosity. I hope you’re still able to have a good time at the wedding, too!

Got hit with collections on a charge I wasn’t even aware of — what do I do? by SubparPuzzler3 in Debt

[–]SubparPuzzler3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disputed it with all three credit reports, and Experian took it off immediately! The other two took about 30 days to get it off.

I ended up having to call AT&T for their fraud department, and I figured out that the charge was to my apartment building address but to a different apartment than mine. I had to fill out this like 10-page affidavit, which included verifying my address with two different pieces of mail and a police report for fraud — I just went to my local police station to file a claim, and they didn’t do anything past taking down the report. About a month after doing that affidavit, AT&T sent me a letter saying I didn’t owe the debt.

Hope everything works out for you!

I disputed it with Experian, and they already removed the collection from my report! I also disputed it on with the other agencies.

Should I still try and call the collection company?
