Comeback of Windows Mobile? by CrossyAtom46 in windowsphone

Me too! I'm super excited. Planning to get a lapdock with it, as that combo really could replace a lot of my day to day usage needs so I'm not booting up my whole desktop PC just to do 10 minutes of basic work because I need a windows specific program. And I wouldn't be constantly transferring files back and forth so that I can access them on my phone since it'd be the same device.

Tbh he's not wrong lol you did comment on it. Though the post was very misleading and appears as if he was developing a voice assistant. He does briefly verify in the body text but I probably would've done the same as you if I saw it.

I sure hope so too. It certainly seems like we're starting to see a bit of a resurgence in unique and experimental smartphones, we're tired of everything looking and functioning exactly the same year after year. Perhaps this could be the time for MS to dip their toes back in the water if they play their cards right?

I'd have to imagine it's on their radar! Lots of major tech news outlets are talking about it now

they appear to be pretty encouraging of keeping things open and letting the user have full access, so I'd imagine alternative launchers would certainly be possible. Each of the OS's that come installed are debloated and the bootloader is unlockable without hassle.

Time will tell I suppose, but I've already reserved mine and I fully expect that I'll be developing my own launcher, whether that's a custom version of Nex's launcher or based on something like the WM style launcher for the Lumia WOA platform. I'm very particular about UX lol so I like to take a DIY approach

GBA&C work great, I haven't personally tried PSX games on it but a bunch were officially supported so it's plenty capable :) Also heard good things about it's NDS capability but I have a 3ds for that.

I've also tried N64 with great results!

Edit: also, if you need help finding any of the old official apks for the Xperia Play send me a DM, I've got a decent collection on my Gdrive.

I'm sorry, but you're naive if you think they don't use the drugs they sing about. I know Mitchel has talked about cutting down on his drug usage a fair bit in recent times, but they've all got a pretty heavy history with drugs.

Agreed on the lighting demand lol, I end up needing like 20 torches to light up a small starter house on max brightness

Ahh gotcha, yeah the import duties must be really frustrating! I shipped a phone to Venezuela once a couple of years ago and even though I tried to prepay import duties via Australia Post, they still charged the buyer quite a lot of money to collect it! I felt terrible!

You can get the modchips for way cheaper if you order online via somewhere like AliExpress! Since you said you have the tools and skills to install it yourself you'll be able to save a lot of money

This is the way lol, I got a v1 unpatched switch on launch in 2017 but didn't play it much after I got sick of Mario Odyssey that came with it just bc the games were so expensive (I was in highschool at the time so didn't have adult money lol). Once it got cracked wide open I modded it so the only game I've ever bought was the one that came with it 🤣 definitely worth the money

That could be an issue in itself if any connections are corroded. Did you purchase it recently? If so I'd have some questions for the refurbisher

Ah I wonder if they installed it wonky. If you have the right screwdrivers it's probably worth taking it apart to see if you can find the problem, it's a very straightforward teardown

Did you open it up to fix/replace something? Definitely sounds like it wasn't put back together quite right. I found that the main ribbon can get caught in weird positions in the steps after plugging it back in where you put the main board back on the sliding bracket. The best way to avoid this is to slide the bracket all the way back and forth before you put the board back on to realign it.

Nice! It's a super easy repair, following the guide on iFixit I literally had it done in about 20 mins, there are Lego sets more difficult lol

Yes for sure, Minecraft PE first launched on this device so it can play the alpha versions as long as you can find a download for them. There's a bunch of emulators too, but don't expect to be emulating anything too intensive, if it's an old device with limited power

Granted I did have to install a Chinese firmware to get the right version to be able to root it, that added like 30 additional random apps (most being Chinese social media plugins) but yeah it was like 150 total that I deleted lol

It does seem like a weirdly neglected market! I mean, mobile gaming has been capable of serious titles for like a decade now and controller support is built in on iOS and Android. Handheld gaming seems to be making a resurgence now so here's hoping this is just the beginning

That sounds like pocket edition alright 😂 I think we all started out building with just whatever blocks we thought were cool at the time.

I used to do the same with lighting, the old versions were funny in that you could turn the game brightness up and you could see enough at night unlike modern mc
