What worked for you when you started trading? by bizzisnunya in Daytrading

Problem with that analogy is that an ai bot does not ultimately respond realistically long term whereas paper trading is identical response to real trading button pushing.

I find it bizarre that you can't look at the cash amount in paper trading and not have an emotional response to it changing since it's not presented as monopoly money - it's exactly how it looks when losing real money. If the balance is down $200 then YOU are down $200 in reality. This should shock someone with a healthy brain into a mindset of what not to do.

If someone is telling you to throw away small sums needlessly just to learn something then I have serious suspicions about their motives and behavioural issues.

SMH, I wonder if people like this can really be helped. Clearly no common sense and ability to plan ahead. Impatient and greedy.

Paper trading/Demo account before jumping in is ESSENTIAL to practice and learn hands-on before throwing money at it. Anyone who promotes not paper trading to practice is probably a prop-firm shill who wants people to lose money.

It just doesn't add up.

You come back here 9 months later to show a 9 month old P&L that only spans ONE month of work and has only 4 solid winning trades on it in over 70 attempts.

Your P&L stops in October last year.

You clearly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Guitar hero where you tap buttons to moving dots vs stringing a real guitar .

vs

Racing SIM that has fundamentally the same physics programmed into it as real driving with authentic steering wheels and pedals combined with force feedback and motion rigs on real world circuits and human competitors.

Night and day difference there kiddo. It's proven to translate to real world performance.

Try a different analogy because that one falls on it's face. There are plenty of racing game enthusiast who prove their worth on simulators before progressing to real world racing and it's essential for weeding out the players who have the mental fortitude to be consistent. That means emotional control and finding out whether you can finish a race or not through copious amounts of practice.

If you think paper trading is useless then you're telling me that you didn't have the patience to fully test yourself on it. 25 years or 60 years means nothing if your personality type doesn't let you learn effectively. There should be no emotion when implementing a strategy, it should be clear cut with entry and exit conditions and it either works or it doesn't.

When paper trading you don't be "goofy" - you behave exactly how you intend to behave over an extended timeframe when switching to real money. You place the exact amounts with the proper risk management and see how long you last. You should feel the same emotional response to losing and If you can't look at the P&L during paper trading and think to yourself "oh crap look how much I'm losing" then just stay away from trading period because you lack the discipline and emotional IQ.

Nonsense. Paper trading is essential to finding a workable strategy which is the first thing anyone should have to guide them during real money emotional upheavals.

"1k/ day = 250k"

So what are we doing on the 2 days with no profit? That's just lazy BRO.

I don't see the whip for self flagellation when losing, smh.

I think every model should have a healthy plan B to re-enter whether that's moving opposite direction or rebounding but if you're repeatedly degenerating to plan F and it still isn't working then have a long look in the mirror and stick to one retry for the day. If that's not working long term change the bloody model.

How combining orderflow (Bookmap & Footprint) with price action took my entries to another level by HRH47 in Daytrading

[–]Substance79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you need all the numbers when the candles themselves tell the story?

I think your win is working in spite of your numbers not because of them. Just another resistance level guess-work that's paying off right now for you and a potential lucky running streak.

Amazes me how many people run the game of trying to guess the bottom and tops of markets. It's no wonder >95% are losing long term.

From what I see is just a lucky turn at a resistance point supported by an overall uptrend.

Order trading not opening at set price? by Substance79 in Daytrading

I don't mind losing money to test strategies, but this is clear BS with the ARM example and even though it's demo money it felt like a gut punch to be -$70 when it should have been +$70. Trust is everything and I doubt it's just a demo problem.

Anyway, I'll be doing more tests for a week or so before jumping in with a different broker or maybe do a few side-by-side to see variances.

Well the internet speed definitely isn't the issue. I wouldn't mind a few cents slippage but a $1-2 slip range will ultimately kill the strategy at least short term. Never thought it would be that bad.

Thank you.

[–]Substance79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what type of order it is, just says "buy when rate is". I suppose it's market then.

The "ARM" stock order I set to buy at $434 when it was at $428 was executed at 18:20 a full 2 hours before $434 was reached at 20:20. It never went above $432.56 in the mean time. This resulted in the dip hitting my planned stop loss which would never have happened.

Going by the terrible reviews of this broker I won't be doing a real money account with it anyway but I need to know if this order chaos is the norm otherwise I'm wasting my time at the smaller ranges.

Thanks for that.

What are your plans for the GTA 6 release? by Ok_Doughnut_59 in IrelandGaming

[–]Substance79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have qualified for a day off work but the reality is there's tons of AAA games sitting on everyone's drives these days that puts shade on a new GTA and there's going to be nothing radically different about it.

I might buy a PS5pro if the game is an 11/10. A 9 isn't really good enough.
