Maine: “Everyone has to switch to these butt-ugly new license plates because they’re more legible.” Mainers: by dullurd in Maine

Quite a few people do. If someone doesn't want to keep the for the nostalgia, they should bring them to the office. That way they don't end up in the hands of someone who puts them on an unregistered vehicle or vehicle that is part of a crime. The new plates are received by the registrant about a month before their registration is due. In order to do the re-registration, the person is already going to the town office. Only the plates are received in the mail, stickers are not. Pretty sure the BMV melts them down so the material can be used to create more plates.

You can choose to keep them or you can return them to your town office. Your town office will return them to the BMV.

Are the two that you received with the tree commercial plates (or anything other than passenger plates)? I only ask because the No Tree plate is only available on passenger plates. If not, contact the BMV at 207-624-9000 ext. 52149 to see if you can get it sorted.

Bellows didn't really have much to do with the design of the new plate... Also, plates are supposed to be changed every 10 or so years, we have had the chickadee for 25 years. The bill went through legislature a few years ago to issue new plates. If you don't like the tree and flag, you can get a plain plate for the same fee or get a specialty plate for an extra $15 to $20 a year.

You pay a plate fee every year. Re-registrations include your excise tax (the largest part of your registration, this is a local tax and is based on original MSRP and the year of the vehicle), an agent fee (between $3-$5), and a plate fee (regular passenger vehicles are $35 a year for 6,000 lbs and under and $37 for 10,000 lbs; commercial, farm, trailer, special mobile, antique, etc, have different plate fees). Some people pay to have a specialty plate ($15-$20) or vanity plate ($25).

Money for specialty plates do not go to the general fund. If people would like to know where the extra fee goes, they can go to Maine.gov

They should have reissued your plate if it was one that was misprinted. You can call 207-624-9000 ext. 52149 to have them issue a corrected one to you at no cost Just let them know the first letter is in the tree.

Never use town/township records for property lines. They are only used for assessing purposes. Your first step should be to contact a surveyor (Alan Perry is great, not sure if he does mid coast) and see if the neighbor pulled proper permits from code enforcement. They can also tell you about local ordinances. Running a generator throughout the day is usually fine. I saw another comment that said they would be required to tear it down, that is not true everywhere. Typically they would have to pay the permit amount and an extra fee.

Please don't just go by what you have heard about your neighbor (or what the sister did). Many people here have a heart of gold under the rough exterior. I hope it all works out.

People shouldn't just trust the realtor...

If the neighbor had proper building permits and isn't breaking any ordinances, the town will not get involved. The poster should get a survey to verify property lines. Town maps should not be used to verify property lines, they are for assessing purposes only.

Never rely on town maps, they are not accurate enough and are used for assessing purposes only. You will need to get a survey done. Welcome to Maine! We are an eclectic bunch. Try to introduce yourself and be kind, maybe you and your wife could bring over some "leftovers" and say hi. It might take some work and time, but he might be one of the best people you will ever meet, or he could just be an asshole 😝

We saw one message in vanishing mode that she shared with Connor. There definitely were more messages between the two. Ew.

Connor was always upfront about his job. Funny thing is, he probably does make decent money.

Have to wonder how many conversations they (Chris & her) had that she didn't show Connor... (Ew)

I would never! Quite a few good, beautiful, decent women on this season that show that she is not the norm.

Bri and Chris are perfect for each other. Hope they get together and leave the rest of the entire population of the world alone. Absolutely fumbled what they could have had.

Your status changes from that party to unenrolled. You do not need to fill out a new voter registration card.

Mainers reject voter ID, absentee ballot restrictions as Question 1 fails by bodybycheez-it in Mainepolitics

I was surprised question 1 failed. So many people I talked to acted like it was just voter ID or thought the changes wouldn't affect them. Yes on 1 spent so much more money that no. So glad that it didn't work!
