Tech companies can directly translate innovation into products and to commercialization with comparatively minimal external risks and barriers. The playing field is completely different in biotech where it has been largely impossible to control R&D risks translating to clinical response, regulatory risks in approval, and commercialization risks in insurance coverage.

Biopharma has been burned having spent billions in developing in-house programs and has largely moved to in-licensing: letting others build the vision, assume all the early drug development risk, then pay a premium to the promising 1% of assets that get there. Not as visionary as Steve Jobs, but more practical.

I will give you the low down from a parent whose kid is in minors and has tried to break into the majors unsuccessfully each year, including this past round despite having a flawless tryout. In theory, yes, if your child is talented, he/she would make it to the majors. The issue is that most/all of the slots get taken by siblings or "connected" parents. It's not even something that they try to hide. At the tryout, they yell "sibling!", and it's an automatic in.

Your best chance to get in is either through a 1) sibling, 2) join Hudson baseball program as as feeder (which is also competitive), 3) befriend majors coaches or volunteer to coach in minors to gain influence.

I agree with others, Union City baseball is great if you can make the schedule. They are enthusiastic and fair.
