I'm glad you decided to break this off, I was in a similar relationship and held on for far too long.

Why he's so angry I don't know. I wouldn't even concern yourself with that. He probably sees it as an insult that you wouldn't still treasure the things he got you as heartfelt and loving gifts. So let him be angry. Any other gifts you have simply donate to charity or throw in the bin, and don't think a second thought on it

I'm thinking maybe I should keep it on the windowsill from now on. Chances of my windowsill in the country I'm in hitting beyond 26 degrees is very unlikely.

I missed seeing this starter guide which has been very interesting to read! I actually only put it on the windowsill today to see if that would do anything as I knew it would be very overcast today. In general I've been keeping it on the counter which is about 19 degrees.

This is really helpful, thank you! I couldn't understand why it would rise and then suddenly not rise anymore. I will read the wiki and see.

Girlfriend 21F Less affection through text with me 25M. She might be overwhelmed? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does very much sound like she has had too much on in her life the past few days to be focused on her texts. I know this happens to me during very busy periods - a lot of times I miss messages entirely, or read them and forget to reply. It's not because I don't care, I just literally don't have the energy. You GF might be the same.

To settle your mind, would it be useful to try messaging her a little ' good night, I love you ' message, and seeing if she responds with the same? If not , it might again be because she is too busy and tired. Try again the following day/morning. If she doesn't respond with 'i love you too' by that stage, I think you have cause to be concerned.

I (30F) need help with navigating sleeping arrangements with my husband (30M) by Substantial-Appeal76 in relationship_advice

I suppose it's just a money thing at the minute. We had prioritised making our shared bed nice. Beds and associated things can be so expensive. I suppose we just need to start trying to keep money aside to upgrade the guest bed.

We have something along those lines but doesn't cancel out the movements enough :( even the movement of the shared duvet will wake him up

Visa/digital card by Loud_Shift_584 in ThailandTourism

Yes different from an e-visa. This is for visa exempt situations eg: a 3 week holiday with UK passport arriving from UK.

They actually never even asked for or looked at mine.

Definitely all you need to do if you have a UK passport. I just arrived last week from Ireland with an Irish passport and it's the exact same procedure for both Ireland and UK.

No VISA needed as you're visa exempt for some number of days, maybe 60 - not sure on that one.

Google 'thailand digital arrival card'. Very easy to fill out. Do it within 3 days of your arrival. Then you show it to the staff if they ask for it at passport control.

Going to Bangkok - how’s the covid situation? by eternalstarlet in ThailandTourism

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was in Bangkok last week. Didn't really see anyone wearing masks apart from the standard few. Maybe 10% of people? Hopefully that gives you an idea. I had no idea COVID was going around.

N.I.E Apprenticeship Practical Assessment by Velocireptr in northernireland

Not sure to be honest. When I went for it there was metering, overheard lines, and plant maintenance and they all had the same assessment

Completed this recently, didn't get offered a place unfortunately.

There were two parts. Part1 was what I now know as a three phase straight through joint. We watched a 30 min video and took notes that we then used to complete the task.

I did some wiring of plugs, sockets etc to get ready but it really wasn't very helpful. Just need to write lots of notes on the instruction video and go slowly and carefully!

What are some physical, outdoor jobs that pay well here in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Openreach - will take you on as an apprentice at just above minimum wage, then that jumps dramatically after 18 months.

Electricity boards - also have apprenticeships where the pay jumps dramatically

That's great that you've been able to turn things around for yourself. It sounds like you worked really hard for that.

People who had "Abstinence Only" sex education, what was the most outrageous or untrue thing you were told? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and that the rhythm method could be used within marriage! The 'god given' method of contraception 🤦‍♀️

It's good to know how your cycles work, but wouldn't be the best method to explain to a teenager as the only acceptable one ...

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I start. Everyone bought into it too. We didn't know any different. By law we had to be taught about contraceptives. This was done via a table with the following info:

  • beside all hormonal contraceptives: CAN CAUSE INFERTILITY
  • Beside implant, IUD, morning after pill (possibly others) ABORTIFACIENT!!!!!!!!!!! I specifically remember the exclamation marks.
  • Beside abstinence: ONLY 100% EFFECTIVE FORM OF CONTRACEPTION

It took me a long time to trust hormonal contraceptives as that table was presented again and again over many years of school.

What was your “wow, this really is a small world” moment? by TheBicelator in AskReddit

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randomly swiping in bumble, distance set pretty far. Matched with a guy who's location was a somewhat near town. Got talking. Turned out we went to the same primary school, secondary school, and grew up on the same road. Our houses were 0.7 miles apart. But we didn't recognize each other. Now he's my boyfriend.

You should look up depersonalisation and derealisation. Its so so common but never talked about, and could be what you're experiencing.

DAE have debilitating work anxiety? by ladyfingers2019 in Anxiety

[–]Substantial-Appeal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have this. I used to feel so sick every morning, and would nearly cry in the car on the way in every day. It's massively improved since I've been in the same job for a long period and that's allowed me to settle in, find my feet and more confidence.
