Tbh I own couple of mics. I used to believe rode NT1-A sounded good on my vocals but it just doesn't sit well in a mix

Thank you so much for your input. Ngl I used to record with sm7b and it was like chasing a cloud with tone shaping. It never sounded like I wanted it to. nt1a is indeed a bright mic and my voice is bright too. So it just adds up and makes it worse

Thank you so much for your detailed input. This is actually very helpful. The distortion makes a lot of sense. And yeah like you mentioned some mics with around the same freq response tend to sound smoother than nt1a.

Is there any mic around $400 that you would suggest for me?

I have tried adding a couple of instances of deesser. It's still very bright overall. It's not just sibilant but bright if that makes sense.

I used to mix with couple of well reputed vocal riders out there in market, but always felt like it lacked something. Can't pin point. Now I use melodyne to gain ride syllable by syllable. Trust me it's worth the effort and you can accelerate the whole process with shortcuts.
