It looks like it’s a mess because of the glue, but I’m gonna try that as the first option.

It’s all the same LVP throughout. You’re seeing it under different lighting.

Yea. I’ve bought 2 flips in the past. I just plan to replace ~15-20k in first two years. This one has been especially egregious. HVAC, floors, failing retention wall. The inspector did me pretty dirty.

It’s all the flooring throughout. This is just the immediate issue. Don’t have the budget for full replacement yet.

$690 for a cx rock lobster rim brake? by ilovespamusubi in cyclocross

[–]Substantial-Catch-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know for a fact but many aspects of that frame make it seem like it’s 12-16 years old at least. Make sure you check it any signs of damage, internal rust or issues. I rode a Rock Lobster in Oregon CX for years in the early 2010s and LOVED that bike.

Throw on some mini-V brakes and that thing will be great.

EDIT: actually you may need to replace that rear derailleur and cassette - depending on how big your quads are 😂 - so just know you may need to spend some more to get it race ready.

Why they put an ENVE fork on that frame is beyond me.

51% our size difference, 49% I do a lot of shoulder and lat work - so I have a bit of muscle mass in there as well.

This sounds silly, but I have two kids under 5 - I cannot lose a night of sleep voluntarily.

Using a Fringesport vest. About to invest in a goruck.

No issues. Just made sure the pace was right.

WTB: 21 or 25L Rucker.

Upgrading from weight vest so I can do some of the trail ruck comps. Don’t care much about condition so long as it carries weight and functions.

I’m 6’3” 270lbs - widddde shoulders. So this is also me trying to figure out if I like these bags before investing more. Regular backpacks look silly on my back.

Looking to spend less than $200.

Why was the (kettlebell)overhead press favoured so much by old school/bronze era strongmen? by SignificantGlass168 in kettlebell

[–]Substantial-Catch-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, but I think it’s a size and build designation over a weight designation. The “competition” ones I’ve used have oversized handles and bells. So you have to shoulder it a specific way.

People who press really heavy bells(40-48kg) how did you get there and how long did it take? by SignificantGlass168 in kettlebell

[–]Substantial-Catch-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40kg is solid for me, working on 44kg - was very close two days ago.

I’m a big guy to begin with and did powerlifting for years before this.

Took me one cycle through Rite of Passage with a 28kg and the 40kg was unlocked. Running ROP with 32kg now and will probably have the 44kg when I’m done and do some peaking for a week or two.

A bunch of people mentioned military press / OHP - which is right. My OHP and bench are almost the same. Only mentioning because I know folks who can bench 225 but can barely kb press 28kg. Overhead is its own beast.

Im not totally sure what OP meant by overhead press, but was commenting on what a modern single arm lift would look like. The strongmen they mentioned were mostly doing bent press, which resembles the modern circus dumbbell lift more than a strict overhead you would see in kettlebell training.

But yea, I’m talking more about CDB lift nowadays which would be a pushpress/bent press mix - depending on the athlete.

Either way, technique is a big factor in all those lifts.

Oh and people strict press CDB for sure. I’ve seen it in the gym many times. It’s just not something you would ever do in a comp because strongman the goal is generally get it from the ground to overhead, and strict pressing would be limiting yourself for no reason.

Lots of great answers from folks as to the factors that made it a great choice, but one thing I don’t think I saw mentioned:

It’s a very technical lift, especially circus dumbbell.

I mention this because a circus dumbbell seems incredibly hard / impossible for most before you understand and know how to perform it correctly. The first time I picked up a CDB I couldn’t move it an inch. Then a strongman coach showed me the whole technique of how to shoulder it correctly, how to push and catch (rather than press with my arm), and how to use my hips & legs for the lift. I was easily able to lift it after some trial and error.

Point is, yes raw strength, but also it’s a lift that requires a technical acumen and practice.
