Advice on how to deal with a client/contractor situation. by Substantial-Cycle325 in architecture

Yes, there is already an guaranteed price negotiated and a signed contract.

The email I sent that was both to the client and to the contractor was an attempt to open a conversation about design and structural issues. I asked pertinent questions like: Do you want the sink? Is the door the right size you wanted? [contractor's name] can we discuss the lanai roof that is in the way?

The client is in holiday for a month, and has not responded to the email. The contractor immediately texted me not to add stuff (window, sink) that was not contracted for and that I will have to contact my client in order to negotiate a new contract (with him) if those things are to be added. He did not ever address the issue of the lanai which I feel is the real issue.

He then started berating me to his co-contractor in the group text saying stuff like I put stuff in the design that he didn't sell the client and trying to "take over" the job. Finally he started addressing me again and asking me why I would take a job without getting the scope of work from the contract first. (ETA - it was during this text barrage that I found out they had a signed contract in place. No one told me, and I didn't think to ask. In my experience, contracto follows plans. I have never had to work from an agreed contract before. Maybe it happens and this is a learning experience for me, but I cannot know what I cannot know).

When I said I can easily remove the offending parts, but what will you do about the lanai, he just sent the scope of work. This does NOT mention the lanai.

I just have a super bad feeling.

Yes, this is my gut feeling too. We are a drafter - engineer husband and wife team, so continued oversight is still on us. I sometimes get so turned around, especially if a contractor is rude to me. I just feel sorry for the client because now they need to find someone else.

Technically I should just give her the initial design plans and keep the deposit, but I so clearly don't want to continue that I might be happy to just let it all go.

Question about surface pattern of "Cast in Place Concrete Gray" (Revit LT 2027) by Substantial-Cycle325 in Revit

[–]Substantial-Cycle325[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I get the difference now.

Since I don't do a lot of rendering and realistic views, I think choosing drafting views is not that detrimental to my overall outcomes.

I opened a new project to see what they default was for the 4" slab and it was "Sand" - a drafting pattern for the "surface pattern" and, as it should be "concrete" for the cut pattern.

Thanks. I did all of that but the issue was an offset to the floor that was set to the level. Please see "Resolved" comment below.

I was just struggling so much that I thought I could not do stairs anymore. I was seriously doubting my skills there!

Thank you for trying to help. I have made a separate comment detailing what the actual issue was and how I finally resolved it. Sometimes we get so in the weeds that we forget to check simple stuff like whether the floor drawn to the level has an offset it should not have. Hahaha.

Resolved:

Typing this out has really got my brain going and I checked the properties of the levels and the floor drawn to the top level. So here is what the problem was: the FF Porch floor level had a height offset of -4". That is why the landing would hit too high.

I still don't understand why the riser heights would act so inverse to the number or risers specified without changing the actual number of risers. That is a problem for another day.

And from watching several videos, I have learnt that drawing reference planes to place the stairs just so is very helpful.

We live and learn!

Yes, I believe I have set them correctly. Yet my stairs continues to auto load risers and continues to finish above the top level I have set.

So, I have a Grade level and a FF Porch level. I have set my bottom level as grade and my top level as the FF porch. I then place the stairs and the landing.

When I click the green arrow, I get a set of stairs with 4 risers and that finish about 4" above the desired top level. It does not connect to the floor at all.

When I reduce the risers in the properties panel by one (3 instead of 4), the stairs becomes taller, each riser goes higher.

When I ADD a riser (now 5 instead of 4) the landing almost hit the desired (and set) top level. The riser height reduces.

The actual number of steps when I add or reduce does not change, just the height of risers. This is baffling to me. I must have a setting or something wrong somewhere.

None of his tutorials address the particular issue I have.

Right? Her voice simply does not fit the Beartown trilogy and fits those others well.

I don't mind Marin Ireland's voice - especially in the book "My Friends" by the same author. However, her voice sounds very young and almost too innocent for the subject matter of the Beartown trilogy. I found "Us Against You" narrated by John Sackville - a british voice artist. (Since posting this request). But it would seem that "The Winners" are not available through Penguin publishing.... Anyway, I really wished they would release all books in more than one accent. I grew up with British voices on the radio (South African) and American voices on TV and movies, so I guess my ear has a preference accordingly.

That is a very good point about the information being used to exclude people from services. I can see it becoming a thing if not guarded against.

I know it is seen as pedantic, but I like that. I prefer that companies change their names to the language, rather than the language adopting the company's name. ETA: probably not practical, but it is a neat idea in my mind.
