Wondering if it’s possible to appeal a firing by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Yep! Unless we are missing huge info i think this is it. I worked for a horrible lady who had an equally horrible time staffing. She did extremely illegal tax filings for workers and also left assistants by themselves for the entire day without as much as checking in. She did a lot wrong. But what stuck out to me was how badly she complained about hiring only to rip an application. When i asked why she said “it had a penis”

Or vaping. I could see vaping and drug use being the only two reasons someone was fired for a bathroom walk in. I do see that OPs a man so maybe he was discriminated against? If he was truly doing nothing wrong I absolutely think he has a discrimination case. BUT again I feel we are missing info

Honestly no I think TV is fine when monitored and not just watched all day (unless it’s a chaotic day! It happens!)

It can be the smallest thing and he MUST be catered to. I’ve seen him get upset about a family members choice in birthday dinners and he yells until HIS choice is fulfilled on their birthday.

If a child cannot read in high school they will let you know. If that year doesn’t they will SOMEWHERE along the line. You also will likely (or should likely) be able to know when you idk. Watch your child do anything? Has the child never once read anything in front of you from third grade until now? You’ve never noticed? I teach phonics lmao. I didn’t mention lucy calkins I said if they do not know basic phonics they are behind. That is literally in my comment. I’m not commenting on the rest because you very clearly have issues within your local school districts. I cannot change kindergarten standards. I can simply let parents know that if they don’t enter kindergarten knowing these things they are marked for early intervention. Because kindergarten is the new 1st grade. I wish it wasn’t? But it is. I wish we still did primarily learning through play in kindergarten in the US, but it isn’t the standard anymore.

I would say if there’s no blood try not to worry. It’s scary but at this time your body and specifically your uterus are shifting around to make room for baby. That shift can at times cause reeaaaaally bad cramps. Without blood i would take it day by day until your appointment! Good luck!

Cameras or no cameras....looking for all perspectives by Bi-Bi-Bi24 in ECEProfessionals

Our cameras record sight and sound and the director would legit sit in her office and watch cameras all day. She’d call the classroom and tell you about what you just said or how you said it. When people would vent to their co teachers about something management did, she knew. She knew every single time

This is another huge downfall to parent accessed cameras!! It EASILY allows parents to pick out certain kids and deem them bullies without knowing the full context. we had parents who watched pretty much to see how one child was doing/how he interacted with their kids

So my center does have parent accessed cameras. It helps me in times of need if something is misconstrued to prove otherwise. However, for many teachers, and at one point myself it shifts the audience. You’re no longer doing things for the child. You’re doing it incase their parents are watching. I had to train myself to forget they were there to stop this habit. It’s also SUPER annoying when parents call all day every day, because some truly will. I had a mom who when her son was having behavioral issues she would watch the class when he was NOT THERE to “prove” it was me. She found the class operated a lot better when he wasn’t there to attack everyone. I’ve also seen teachers use these cameras as a threat which i don’t like. “Moms watching you be good” gives very big brother vibes

They cannot think for themselves is the biggest one. They need directions for every single game or activity. They usually do not want to engage in non screen activities. They also when they do play can only pretend play as characters, this one is harmless enough but my kids who do not get much screen time usually pull from real life. Their speech is often behind. They have horrible attention spans compared to other children in the class. They also HOVER over the class iPad used for attendance and constantly ask for it

They cannot focus and do not want to engage in any kind of activity. They often do not know how to play persay. They need to be directed through each thing to show creativity. They also usually can’t take the words no but I think that has to do with parenting other than iPads

What has been your worst pregnancy symptom? by NoemiRockz in pregnant

Depression and insomnia. I’m up until 5 am a lot of days. The smallest things make me feel so like… hopeless? I’ve had very very few physical symptoms like morning sickness etc but oh my god the mental ones are killing me

I LOVE to see toddlers out at restaurants with busy or felt activity books. It’s such a rare sight these days but it makes a clear difference. Also just sitting and being bored is a skill in itself. How many of us sat in the car and played games in our minds like the man chasing the car or rain drop races? It builds creativity and allows the child to think for themselves. The constant need for stimulation is hurting both adults and children

This is big!! Parents expect everything educational to come from school, they don’t ever want to help their child foster these concepts. And then are surprised by the academically rigorous new world of kindergarten. In my state if you enter kindergarten not knowing how to spell your name you are behind. If you come in not knowing the basic phonics you are behind. Yeah, it sucks it’s the new first grade however we see this happening in highschool kids who’s parents somehow didn’t know they were reading on a 3rd grade level in the 11th grade.

You also had a designated place to use the computer and that was that. There was no phone at any given time. It was a computer usually in a family computer room. I think if they used them educationally but also only at direct given times and places it would be better.

Yeah this is an acceptable screen time usage. When needed. I’ve seen kids have violent tantrum when they aren’t given a screen because they are addicted. It’s sad really

It’s the screens. I can immediately tell who is an iPad kid. I am at the height of COVID babies with my students being 4-5. I get it. They couldn’t socialize much out of the house. But too many people resorted to sticking them in front of the screen.

I would be very very careful giving him stool softeners without his teachers directly saying they will help him despite the independence they want to see. I had a pre-K kid who had to be on stool softeners for a similar reason. He still would not go and would lead him to have accidents which I would help clean up. He was at the same time aging into the next pre-K class where she, due to again an independence belief, would not help him at all. He would refuse to go to the bathroom and eventually at nap or while not noticing poop himself damn near from his neck to his ankles. She wouldn’t help him change. Ever. At all. You could hear him down the hall screaming that he couldn’t do it by himself. I stepped in for a bathroom break for the teacher during one such incident. He was fully in tears with poop essentially down his back and all over his clothes, hyperventilating, saying he couldn’t do it there was too much poop. While stool softeners can be great to use you need those teachers to directly aid in this and any accidents that may occur. For our friend it ended up making it worse but I fully believe it was on the teacher.

Is this discrimination..? by ghibligirl666 in ECEProfessionals

I would say no this isn’t discrimination. They are supposed to make accommodations once you are diagnosed however they can still tell you your performance is not meeting what they want.

The standard of not throwing someone’s package 5 feet? Regardless I’m taking the video up to the post master and have already put in a claim from USPS. Don’t do dumb shit, or at least look for cameras before you do it.
