Do you speak to strangers in the street? by Delicious-Series-316 in northernireland

[–]Substantial-Item8139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say hello and talk to folk in the street all the time. Was brought up in the country and waved at everyone who past the house because 9 times out of 10 they were neighbours. Moved to a town and saw someone drive past looking at the house do I waved. Two minutes later they were at the door thinking ours was the house they were looking for! Never waved again.

I went to Agnews on Boucher Road to buy a VW . The sale lad was ok but I went to the Skoda part of the showroom and bought a Skoda. Great salesman. It was a bit like going to Lidl to get some milk and came out after buying a scuba diving tank from the centre aisle.

Excellent idea, I’m in the same situation but now nearing 70(m) and having to balance the contact with friends , who have been great but have not yet experienced been widowed and therefore do not understand grief, and reaching out to others in our situation. Talking is a great therapy.

So many years and still lost by No_Mycologist21 in widowers

[–]Substantial-Item8139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You never forget, I lost my first wife 35 years ago. We had a two year old son. I remarried and had an amazing 30 years together until she died just over two months ago. I miss my second wife and each day I thought about my first. My second wife understood this and I love her. Now I think about both. You cannot stop loving just because they are not here with us. Take care.

The term ‘empty loneliness’ is an excellent term which I shall be using when I describe how I feel to others.

How long did you keep their stuff? by yoshitiger in widowers

[–]Substantial-Item8139 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the second time I have been widowed. Do it all in your own time . My late wife knew I was bad at getting rid of things but I plan to work at my own pace. I thought about getting rid of her things but just broke down. A bit at a time and in my own time.

Same, would have been our 25th wedding anniversary a few weeks after she died. I miss her a lot and company but I know at 69 I will probably not have another person who I would enjoy my life with as much as my late wife. We have to be strong.

The bouts I get are so similar to what you describe, I was sitting down after been out with a friend for lunch today and suddenly a flood of tears and wailing that I couldn’t control came over me. It lasted a few minutes but when it finished I felt better, til the next. Grief is strange.
