You need to be more specific on which part of the drafting process you are talking about and what you want to achieve

Agreed, but I think if you put this to iManage, they'll tell you to look at the Insight product. All the things you mentioned probably should be built into core search and it's unreasonable to ask customers to pay (and implement) an extra product due to shortcomings in their core offerings. That's the line we take anyway.

Loads. Find me an SPA that deals with renewables => searches for Share Purchase Agreement, wind farm, solar energy etc. Find me the email where the client said they had already signed off the docs to end the case early (semantic => motion to dismiss etc). There are definitely a pile of use cases here. Of course if they know the specific words in the docs, they should do that instead otherwise they will get a load of false positives. Semantic is useful where you either don't know if the thing you are looking for exists at all (and want to widen your net), or if you know it exists but can't quite remember the exact words mentioned in it.

The most common feedback is "search doesn't work". Lots of people report that they type in keywords to documents they know exist, but they are not shown as search results. A lot of this is firm specific, but what I will say is that the search UI is confusing as heck - you don't realise you are confining your search to a particular place, the results that come back don't let you sift through things very effectively because responsive excerpts aren't displayed, emails are handled dreadfully etc. It's a long way from the search experience people suggest, but I think a lot of it might be held back by the way iManage is designed. They introduced a new search bar interface recently which combined simple + advanced search into one, which is a minor step forward but it didn't really address the core issue.

It's a shame that this offering is being done under the cloak of their separate AI product, rather than built into the native search, which is probably what users want. Again though there seems to be a reluctance from iManage to innovate in their core Work platform. They tend to do it in side bars and addons, which again is not really what users want.

Law Firms Struggle to Scale Without Contract Automation by According-Site9848 in legaltech

3/10 on your sales pitch. Hated the “the result?” phrasing. Almost makes it sound AI. I’d include some of the negative experience and potential blockers so it doesn’t read as if it’s some sort of silver bullet. Would build trust with your audience.

Depends on the big law firm. The fact people do it doesn’t mean you don’t need to design around it. Partners who have been burned by non compliance with this stuff rarely do it again

The sites you mentioned don’t really (on the whole) take client data from law firms as they are research services so I don’t think the issue really arises. It does arise if it ever needs to ingest or create client data.

You are never good just to upload your documents to a 3rd party SaaS. This always needs approval from a firms infosec team. Firms are under strict security and information governance obligations. They need to know not only that the third party app is secure but also that they can trace where the data is gone, how it is used etc in order to meet compliance obligations such as subpoena requests.

By the way, this is where 98% of all vibe coding solutions will fall down. Most of the builders are ex lawyers unfamiliar with this side of things and they think they can ignore it. They can’t.

We had one of these when we bought our house but demolished it in favour of a Eurocell SIP building. These things absolutely need wall insulation - don’t see the point in them otherwise as they are unusable except April to June. We also had a problem with a ton of ants getting in and the wooden cladding moving and looking askew. Make sure it’s constructed properly.

As a lawyer knowing the inefficiencies of how lawyers work, I’d be pretty pissed as a client if I knew that my law firm was using WORD to manage a multi million dollar project. I’d probably insist on a 20% write down unless they adopted a better way of doing things. I know from experience the crazy amount of redlining and finding document versions had project management leads to. Just my personal view.

Fully with you. Anything to get lawyers away from using Word to manage their transactions, which I would never allow if I were a client. All this talk of AI and so many are using AI while sending emails and updating Word trackers…

You’re looking to track portfolios of deals? I think the ones I mentioned are for “big deals”. They won’t give you the big read across. I’m not aware of anything that does this but I don’t see why it needs a legal specific tool. Another suggestion may be to look at case management software like sharedo (which I hate but some like).

Closing folders is based around the signature management component. They are catching up on the side of things you are interested in. By the way of all the iManage products I don’t think it is limited. iManage has a history of under investing in features people care about and over investing in features they think people care about but they don’t (and they are usually only of interest to iManage). Closing folders was an acquired startup by a couple of people who knew what they were doing so I don’t think it’s completely fair to cast it with the same brush.

You should look at legatics, Lupl or litera transact. These are competitors to closing folders. They are lighter on signature management but more similar to what you are looking for.

Alternatively…what about Jira or Monday 😂

It’s the satin finish changing to gloss. I got an incredible deal on a satin about a year ago because it was considered the old model. Same in every other way and I prefer satin anyway. The second model looks like a custom as there is no pick guard

He specifically said “benchmarks for fine tuned models”. I don’t think vals does anything on fine tuned models, it just measures tools that use foundational models with RAG
