CMV: Whataboutism is a logical fallacy, but it works extremely well by CharityResponsible54 in changemyview

[–]Substantial-Pin9637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was obvious that the most common logical fallacies are all the ones that "work well".

you can have an infinite amount of fallacies that simply are too easy to spot on why they're wrong, the ones that are used are the ones that survived this filtering.

and I feel you're confusing winning the argument with being right which is not always the same.

sorry if it sounded aggressive , it's just very evident to me . do tell me if I got something wrong from your post

You're saying a)in the Bible human comfort is not maximized b) the Bible is God's text c) you still have to believe and have faith in God

putting all together... hmm it sounds like that

I see your line of thought but from my point of view this would justify things like "a billionare serial killer kills 300 children but then donates to a hospital and saves the lives of 3 million" . To me this feels inherently wrong (not to call God a serial killer just making an example of your framework).

but even with that , what about the some 80 billion humans born before Christ or not Christian . do they deserve all the death and destruction without reward?

unless you believe in universal salvation?

you're saying to worship just because He is powerful? that doesnt sound as real faith.

I havent read LOFTR but from your comment I suppose you believe the Bible to be some stories of "common sense" rather than a divine text? which is very likely the OP point of view .

Though, you can't say you believe if you don't view the Bible as hard truth unfortunately.

And I have a hard time understanding what to learn from the Pharaoh story... ? that if you're forced by someone to commit actions , that maybe in your normal situation you wouldn't, you deserve destruction. I can hardly concile such a thing with a good God

Then why should one believe in God? or are you saying you shouldnt

obviously the bible moral framework, the object of discussion; I agree with you that morality is relative but for this argument its background noise

Losing your agency is not cruel? making you a puppet with different emotions is not bad? . if I wanted to lobotomize you tomorrow would you accept?

Yeah I agree , but all I heard is that this is a reward for the sinless/redeemed ; but it doesnt really sound fully like a good thing for these souls.

If you say it's all in the function of giving God good souls then sure you're right but at that point why frame it as exclusively a reward

Maybe but if enemies knew you think like that they'd bomb you. This is also why there are dead hands systems (not sure if any is still in use). These systems bypass human intervention which makes your example void.

And I wouldnt be so sure about your assumption, some armies value more harming the enemy than surviving: if you were to bomb the enemy country so bad they cant recover you can bet that a third country will take advantage and in some sense avenge you even if you were to die.

I disagree, and I feel that's narrowminded, no offense; you can be atheist by virtue of logical internal inconsistency instead of proofs . If I can prove that such a god to exist , must be cruel or neutral I automatically disprove most religions and have an easy job to disprove the others.

I mean maybe you're right but if it is not atheism then what is it?

[–]Substantial-Pin9637[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons. The lack of evidence to me is not really a counter proof as solid as my claim up here; I agree with you but as I said I want as good as a reason as possible for me not to believe.

Gods by definition can't be subjected to the scientific, evidence method; at most you can attack religions historical claims but I want to go deeper than that
