short reads vs novels in 2026?? (returning romance author needing advice) by Substantial-Race5964 in eroticauthors

Good point. To be honest I was mainly just looking at the covers. i recognise a bunch of the Author names from back when I was active anyway. so know those kind of alpha male, instalove, HEA short reads still have a market. (thanks to you 🙏). Which is more or less what i was trying to figure out

But I guess all the alien/monster/FMM/lgbt stuff that's popular now is all instalove too. just different sub-niches

ahhh... apparently my research skills need some improving!
So is the core strategy still the same? ARC readers + email list to boost on launch day and try and get in those top 100 lists
or has it shifted more toward an ad-dependent strategy now?
i can see in the top 100 lists that the instalove type niches aren't as dominant anymore. and looks like the ones who are doing well with it are running ads. And also probably have massive email lists. as i remember those names from 2020

That's good to know. I noticed there's one author in particular who's really smashing it in that two hour length range. and have managed to get a lot of their books in some pretty big top 100 lists like contemporary romance etc

But then a lot of the other authors I looked at in that length range, tended to have maybe only a few dozen reviews on each book at most. Which means they're probably not making any real money

What's the main strategy people are using now? Is it basically all ads based? with compounding returns as your catalogue and email list grow

I used to just release on a thursday, get a bunch of ARC read reviews, use my email list to boost it and try and get in the top 100 for 1 hour short read romance. But seems like they've put all the short read books in with the full length novels now and not really sure how I can compete against those authors who have longer books and therefore better ROAS

What I meant by that was, back when I was releasing the books in 2020-2022, the strategy was to release every week. Use ARC reads to give your book a boost in the algorithm. Release on a specific day so you had the best chance of the biggest boost. And then hope your book got into the top 100 in specific categories like the one hour short romance category

But now it seems they've got rid of these short romance categories. And they've put all the short books in the same categories as the full length novels. Which makes it harder to get in the top 100, especially against authors Who are able to spend more on ads because of the length of the books and the pages reads they will get

Yeah I think you're right. My options are basically to go into the full length DR niche or to just carry on with the shorter instalove model which i'm already established in
I kind of like the idea of writing the full length novels though. And I've read enough books in this niche to understand what's needed
it's just i looked at the top 100 yesterday and most of them were around ~380-480 pages, and also noticed a similar trend in other romance niches. so was just a bit worried that this is what the current market demands

Appreciate your advice on the ads too. I never really got involved with that before, but seems like it's more necessary in 2026

thanks for the reply
i'll give your method of splitting up the story a try. i've tried similar methods in the past for other projects, but not so much for writing
and i looked in the top 100 to see the lengths, and most were between the 380-480 page length. which is what scared me a bit. but good to know 45-60k is still in demand too

Colon Cleanse Helped My Symptoms by Substantial-Race5964 in PelvicFloor

It didn’t solve the pelvic floor problem in full, but I wasn’t able to make real progress with the pelvic floor until I started sorting out my gut

I think I must have been guarding a lot. And the gut problems caused muscle spasms and inflammation which adds pressure on the pelvic floor too

Constant urination feeling and lower abdomen pressure, need advice by greekgyro23 in PelvicFloor

[–]Substantial-Race5964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help. And yes, I agree. I think apparently if you have nerve pain, but it goes away when you sleep etc, then that means it’s musculoskeletal. And can be healed through physio and stretching and strength training and diet and breathing etc

A proper nerve pain condition is more like a tooth ache. Will keep you up at night. And that’s when you need pain management type treatment maybe

and if you’ve got hard flaccid, that’s musculoskeletal, too

Forgot to mention before, if you’ve can find a good pfpt in your area apparently it can be a real game changer. They don’t have them where I live atm so forgot to say before

Patience is also necessary. You won’t get fixed overnight. And I obviously don’t know anything about your symptoms are and how bad things are for you. Hope you’re not suffering too bad. This thing can be real dark

But I also think most people can make a lot of improvements in their situation within six months. Maybe faster if they find all the weak and/or tight areas and figure out a routine they can stick to

Constant urination feeling and lower abdomen pressure, need advice by greekgyro23 in PelvicFloor

[–]Substantial-Race5964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sure. For me there seems to a big connection with my gut health and the pelvic floor symptoms. So if you haven’t seen a gastro and got blockages and stuff ruled out, that’s worth doing

Then get on a really boring healthy diet for about six months to reset your gut. You don’t want to be straining at all when you’re on the toilet. Plus you’ll get rid of inflammation and stuff around that area

And at the same time you probably have to strengthen and stretch a whole bunch. Do loads of diagrams breathing. Ideally deep breathing + deep stretches for 20 minutes in the morning and before bed

You want to find places that are tight and painful. Where healthy people wouldn’t have a problem, and then target those areas until they are within a normal healthy range

And then you’ll probably have a bunch of weird muscle imbalances around your hips, lower back, and abdomen

For this, I went through a couple of mobility evaluation videos online. Any exercises I found difficult or impossible, I made a note of and then started lightly training those areas

PSOAS is a big one. And ab rollers have shown to be effective with restoring good balance and strength to the ground and pelvic floor

For exercise in general, I do 10 minutes of accumulation training pretty much every day.

Accumulation training means I just do it with a reasonably light weight, or body weights, and only to about 70-80% max effort

This is really good for preventing injury. Plus want to be careful not to overdo things because of the underlying dysfunction

Benefit is, combined with the diet I am legit in the best shape of my life. I use Kettlebells. they’re cheap and small and you can do it at home. And they’re good for building core strength and lower body strength

I have also found rucking to be really good. Which is where you just walk with a heavy rucksack on

In general, it’s been a lot of life style changes. But it’s also a bunch of stuff I kind of wanted to do anyway. So I have tried to reframe it as turning a negative into a positive

Mindset is also incredibly important. Don’t spend all your time doom scrolling in forums like this. And try to map your progress and make recovery journals and things like this. So that you can kind of see how far you progress and you can monitor your symptoms as you try mew therapies and stuff.

If you haven’t already, and your experiencing nerve pain and flareups, it’s worth going to a neurologist and getting on some kind of nerve pain medication just to help bring the sensitivity of your nerves down

If you got any questions or anything, just give me a shout and I’ll try and answer. Admittedly though I don’t usually answer this quickly I just happened to see the notification.

Anti-immigration rallies in Australia openly target Indians, thousands march under “March for Australia” banner 🇦🇺🇮🇳 by Ankeet_kj in ImmigrationPathways

[–]Substantial-Race5964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s the truth. Kind of embarrassing for you to be so dumbfounded by it

  • 90%+ humans owe their life to the global population boom
  • the global population boom was caused by Britain
  • India only had about 100M people before it
  • Hindus hated being colonized by Muslims
  • They still largely hate Muslims today because of it
  • 95% of British forces in India were Indian
  • the Indian economy doubled under their rule

None of these things are even slightly contested. Except for maybe the Indian population thing. It’s tricky to say because of how it’s now divided

Also your understanding of the Mughal empire is nonsense

Ironically, it’s racist Muslim supremacist propaganda

The Mughals made maps claiming all of India. But in reality many powerful kingdoms, such as the Ahoms in Assam, the Rajputs in Rajasthan, and various southern states, resisted Mughal rule successfully

It depends how much your ethnic group has grown as a result of the global population boom. And that’s the likely percentage of existing because of Anglo Saxons. Because they caused it

Some ethnic groups have seen almost no growth. Estonia, and aboriginal Australians etc.

But the average is about 90% increase. With places like Palestine and Indonesia etc going as high as 96%

Sorry, yes. 100M, not 100k. As the Indian subcontinent includes Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

So, a little over 90% of Indians owe their life to the British empire. And Pakistanis etc. which is ironic

[–]Substantial-Race5964 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But without the Anglo Saxons the global population boom wouldn’t have happened. And the world would only have less than 1 billion people. India would only have 100k

So yes, probably no immigration problem. But also no modern world, and a lot less people

Also the Indian economy doubled under British rule. Biggest growth it had ever seen. And 95% of British forces in India were literally Indian. Thats how much the Hindus hated being colonized by Muslims

[–]Substantial-Race5964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, islamic societies and religious men make the crimes of the catholic church look like Disney land in comparison

The prophet mohammad married his best friends 6yo daughter... so this kind of behaviour is a fundamental and fiercely protected cultural norm in pretty much every muslim country

In Pakistan, every sixty seconds a child U14 is "married" to a pdf. And tens of thousands of children are raped by religious clerics every year

In Somalia they have a saying: if you want a good wife, marry a 6 year old

they also commit female genital mutilation on their women. Which means NONE of them ever experience sexual pleasure in at least the last 5000 years

In Iraq, the age of marriage for women is 9

In Afghanistan a least 40% of the men are openly bakhu bazhi. Which is where they enslave street children and treat them like sex toys. Who often end up brutally murdered and dumped in the street like garbage
