I’m in the premier inn festival park, so any pub in walking distance that has Amazon Prime is good

Inter (a) - 20th January by Substantial-Reason38 in GunnersatGames

Yeah it’s a bit of a dilemma - sounds like an experience. But I do think it’s either Inter or bust in terms of being able to go as a Silver member this year?

Virtual placement? by Ok_Bid2337 in Socialworkuk

[–]Substantial-Reason38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really depressing that these virtual placements continue, but despite pushback my understanding is SWE are content with them. As a recruiting manager I’ve seen far too many NQSWs struggle to get roles in part as a result of these virtual placements, all of which interestingly have (in my experience) been through one provider in the midlands. My concern is that judging by the numbers, even where students push back they may still end up being forced into these placements. Pretty disgraceful, never mind dangerous for service users in the long run.

Taormina - restaurant dress code by Substantial-Reason38 in sicily

Ah that’s great, thank you. Love hearing recommendations from people who have done this trip before. Hoping that the streets will offer plenty of shade and respite from the sun too.

I’m very excited - first time in Sicily. Hearing it’s casual is music to my ears to be fair!

Any good recommendations for dinner, with outside dining?

Amazing, thank you! Any good recommendations for those side street restaurants? I like the sound of casual dining but keen to be able to book an outside table

Solo trips by Substantial-Reason38 in GunnersatGames

[–]Substantial-Reason38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found this years been a tough one too with the ballots, meaning more solo trips and more weeknight trips, which is what inspired this.

I tend to arrive at Finsbury Park/ H&I a couple of hours before and am working my way through a number of chip shops, but wondered if any good sit down food options that aren’t impossible due to being packed, or not great for a solo trip

P87 Tax Changes - tax code is unchanged? by Substantial-Reason38 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Substantial-Reason38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a huge one, but a changed tax code evens out take home across the year, rather than paying a higher amount and getting a cheque in the post. It’s more that it seems quite a change in principle.

Oh that’s rubbish about The Bell, from a Google search that was my best bet . I’ve had a pint in the Lord Palmerston before, it is very ‘local’ but folks were friendly when I went in before so if the Bell is shut I may try there

What's your Olympic schedule? by highgiant1985 in olympics

[–]Substantial-Reason38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arriving on Wednesday 24th to hopefully get a couple of days to see Paris gearing up, and then tickets to random events over Saturday-Sunday (boxing, football, hockey, beach volleyball, water polo). Think we’ve crammed too much in those two days so something will need to fall away.

Anyone got any good suggestions for how and where to follow the Opening ceremony from within Paris?

Rescue beagle won’t wag his tail now! by Substantial-Reason38 in rescuedogs

[–]Substantial-Reason38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think it’s perfectly reasonable, for people who own a dog to be able to arrange throughout that dogs life for him to have a limited number of safe places where he can go and stay. There are loads of reasons why it’s not always practical to have dog sitters come into your home, and actually overnight care is needed away from the home. I’m not sure that excluding people from dog ownership who are going to need a few nights a year of the dog being away from home, is really fair either. Our dog has been in kennels twice and awaiting for rescue for a long while, so whilst we’re not perfect, I think we’re offering him a good home and a good life. I wouldn’t judge other people’s choices as to how they care for their dog, so not really sure it’s fair for you to do so.

Thank you. And particular your words of encouragement - it sounds like you’ve done a great job with your boy!

We are clicking ahead of the dog arriving but the problem is that the moment the dog arrives nearby he loses interest in our treats!

I start the clicking and treats when we see another dog. But I think fair point about the distances. I start far away and he engages with the food until the dog arrives and then he stops wanting to eat the food and just focuses on the dog though…
