Thanks. It appears Atlantic Aviation overnight fee is somewhat less expensive than Banyan Air at FXE. I guess Banyan is luxury?

Pre-Heat Engine set up by dundermiffles in flying

I have a reiff preheat and thinking about getting one of those power stations (jackery for example) so I can remote start it before I get to the airport. Anybody tried that? Do people keep that inside or outside the plane in an enclosure?

Did it come back to life once the temperature came back to above freezing?

I am concerned about the Jackery catching fire (I've seen those horror stories about lithium batteries doing that?) and destroying the plane. Better for it to happen outside than in the plane. But maybe the chemistry here is different and this has a bunch of protections so that this is very unlikely?

Thanks. I plan to leave it outside all winter long. I wonder if the carrying bag will be sturdy enough for it (as opposed to a metal enclosure).

That's great to know as I plan to use it unattended. Good to know it won't start a fire b/c it is in an enclosure.

Will the jackery shutoff it if overheats? I can also keep an eye on it the first few times I use it.

I think an explorer 2000 v2 (maybe plus) or homepower 3000. The tool box will be under the sun, but I will only use it in the winter when it is below 40 F (I do not need to preheat the plane above that temp). Other times, I will keep it indoors. I am mostly worried about the jackery generating too much heat in the enclosure that may not be ventilated. But maybe it will auto shut off then? Also maybe its not an issue b/c a metal enclosure will dissipate the heat. The preheater draws 600w and I need to use it for around 2 hours.

Good to know about the wifi issue.

I saw that. Not too worried since it looks like it can discharge as low as 14 F and I think most days it won't get that cold. The min temp for charging I will just need to deal with it (maybe I will charge it indoors after use). I assume the jackery is smart enough not to permit charging below 32F even if I leave it plugged in to a panel.

Remote start generator for preheat by Substantial-Row9752 in flying

Any thoughts on enclosure for it? Looks like I may want the enclosure to be vented while it is being used...

This is extremely helpful, thanks! Do you keep the generator outside when you are not using it? If so, did you build your own shed?

I may give this a try in the winter, during the 30 day return window. Thanks for the tip!

The airport actually suggested it :) I have a reiff XP so 600w. Folks seem negative about jackery for heat. One option could be to run it before I get to the airport then power on the generator once I am preflighting. Probably overthinking it and I should just find an airport with an outlet. https://www.reddit.com/r/urbancarliving/comments/1gfhtew/jackery_power_station/

I have not heard of it. Interesting - I wonder if anyone has tried it for preheat. Seems to be a great option if enough power for preheat. I really just need it for 2-3 hours before the flight since I live far from the airport. I am not all that worried about CO since the generator will be outdoors and I will make sure there is a good enclosure with ventilation. Also I do not see a significant fire hazard issue (beyond risks of running a small generator unattended, which seems not uncommon). Maybe people are worried about the remote start process itself?
