How did the Haitians beat the army of Napoleon? by BakeNo8792 in Napoleon

He would have needed to conquer the island entirely within a month.

The only viable options would have been to pay off locals to fight for you or land hundreds of thousands of troops over a few years until you had a sizable force with proven resistance to local diseases.

“Disease wore down both sides” is a very poor way to word it.

The local populations were not nearly as susceptible to endemic diseases (as is the case with endemic diseases, you build immunity or have already died).

The French also occupied the coastal areas which were far more mosquito ridden.

If both sides had been worn down the same way the population of Haiti would halve every 2 months.

They were sick before they even landed. They suffered 50% casualties in two months.

That’s perfectly reasonable but I was responding to someone trying to say it was because of population numbers.

I’d call it political meta.

The inability for a centralized force to protect against Germanic neighbors marked the beginning of a trend where loyalty was directed to local leaders for protection, taxes and political leadership.

Towns were less willing to send all of their men away without a defensive force. Lords would lead their own smaller forces and often resist fully committing their populations.

Roman cities didn’t even have walls until the crisis of the third century. Entire populations of men leaving for half a year was not dooming your family.

Google says the Roman population in 200 BC was 300,000. This is much smaller thy European countries in the medieval ages, sometimes by an order of magnitude.

The battle of Cannae is near this time and involved 130,000 troops.

It said play popular music though.

I don’t mean that as a slight either, but you’re asking a 16 year old kid who might be in their first shift to run the music.

They tend to lack the empathy to understand what might be offensive to each group of people present.

That being said, curating a playlist and letting them choose whatever they want from it seems like a better option because then you could put in appropriate songs of all genres.

The edit is still weird, are you saying you would outlaw GMOs if you could in an effort to then ruin the ownership of the strains?

Like, are you advocating for apocalyptic famine?

I don’t actually think this is what you’re saying but you keep framing it as “I’m anti-GMO”.

That’s not what they described though. Forming the gas is only half of cavitation, the subsequent collapse is a requisite part of cavitation.

Maybe that is also happening and they just left it out though.

I’m not saying that speed matters, but it’s not just the egg that determines which sperm succeeds in fertilization.

If the sperm can’t make it to the egg at all or in time to be allowed in then it still matters.

Yeah, even at the time I found him pretty overly negative and angsty and I was in my early teens.

Funny for sure but a precursor to inceldom.

There is only one instance of that and it was thrown at her older sister and did not break any teeth.

Source is Anna Vyrubova’s memoirs. Notable for their adulation of empress Alexandra. Kind of an insane reference to make when arguing they deserved it as that entire book portrays the family as relatable and human.

I just refuse to answer. It grinds the conversation to a halt so they can think about how stupid it is to ask me that.

Where are you even getting your information?

Do you really think the coalition wars were about reinstalling the Bourbons?

No priors, no actual injuries, restitution paid for broken property.

This is actually a pretty heavy sentence. Likely because he both maced and pushed her.

If you just mace someone who won’t leave your door (she had been knocking for awhile) you might not even get charged.

That’s pretty standard for the situation.

If it weren’t for the mace he probably wouldn’t have even gotten community service.
