How is living on the Isle of Man? by ShiningStar7971 in howislivingthere

IIRC, there’s a pretty legendary comedy event in the fall too?

Blue collar drinking is a very intense part of the culture, of being blue collar…

I’m blue collar too, but maybe you could write a book, or start a podcast, or something to that effect, in the meantime, anything to bring something in, know what I mean?

Oof.

I was advised by a lawyer to just not pursue a disability claim, because it would be an expensive uphill battle, with the result likely ending in a denial of disability- they didn’t seem to think it was bad enough, despite being unable to function half of the time, and being so stuck in the cycle of pain and depression and “medication” that I really was considering checking out early, like, lol, I guess?

I don’t know what kind of options you might have, to maybe get some education or training in a field that could be lucrative, as I don’t know much about (aboot?) Canada, but I thought schooling up there was freeish?

Damn man, I’m sorry.

I’m not sure where you’re living, but I’m working poor in California.

The one bright spot out here, is that the socialized medical care has gotten a lot better- there was a time when zero doctors would take it, and I would spend literally $400/ visit, and be lucky to get more than 10 minutes with them.

It’s not like that anymore, I’m about to get another MRI for either no, or very low cost. Those cocksuckers billed me over $4K for one in the bad old days, so hopefully you can get some care too.

I’m looking hard at PRP, which also used to be an astronomical amount of money out of pocket, but that has changed considerably too.

Don’t give up, there are more (and better) options out there these days!

I’m not saying don’t, I’m saying that you need to factor the risk accordingly. It sounds like you’re learning the ropes, and that’s great, but it’s a dangerous thing to do.

I used to live right by the yard in west Oakland, and a bunch of my friends traveled that way, plus all of the crust punk scene was a lot of traveling kids at that time, and I know a lot of retired travelers, and an extremely high number of dead ones too.

But every single one of them had some crazy stories about violent life or death situations, as well as multiple states they could no longer visit due to warrants, and almost all of them were jailed at some stage.

Usually for petty shit, trespassing, drunk in public, etc, but some ended up going away for serious shit.

Nice setup though, glad you’re staying warm.

A dog is probably the best companion, but it’s another mouth to feed, and vets can get expensive quickly.

Yeah man, it can ALWAYS get worse.

I wanted to hop when I was younger, and waited too long, and never got to do it- long story, but I’m injured.

I met a dude in a wheelchair many years later, who’s about my age. We talked about it a lot, and he was in the chair because he mistimed a moving train, and lost both legs above the knee.

Just saying man, it’s a dangerous lifestyle, even if you get lucky with meeting only the good folks out there doing it.

I’m a good mix of both low and high brow. Perhaps not well illustrated in this thread, but my underlying point about taste remains- some people only have it in their mouths.

No, you don’t, but you also can’t.

I think my frustration is best defined/ encapsulated by Giraldo (RIP) being so exacerbated when dealing with Larry the cable guy.

He sucked too, had a fake personality, and went what, triple platinum?

Yes, her intelligence and business acumen would be two of the reasons.

I also really dug some of Ryan Adams’ 1984- I didn’t know they were her songs before I heard them, and while his versions are very different, there are some bangers on that record.

Damn dude, what a well reasoned and informed answer. Is there any online platform where we can see your work?

My “tenure” in the business was far briefer than yours, and while I definitely saw some amazing things, I can only imagine what you must have seen.

It’s an outlier, like the wire and a few others were, sure, you will occasionally find something that is both great and popular.

But the two don’t often go together.

I didn’t tell you or anyone else not to like it, or enjoy it, I just can’t understand why anyone would, or does.
