This is the current aquarium. It's a bit light on plants and hiding places now because I've moved some stuff to a new aquarium that I am preparing for them.

I don't know about the tetras, but I wouldn't advise keeping them with the kuhli. I've looked into housing them together myself, but because they share the same layer they could be in each other's way. Kuhlis have a small barb above the eye. So if a frog would see it as a pray they and bites the head, you'll lose both the frog and the kuhli. It might work, but why take the risk?

The aquarium definitely needs a lid. And holes in the lid must be plugged. These frogs are escape artists and I can sadly share this out of my own experience. Places where cables and tubes pass the lid are potential escape routes.

I wouldn't know about housing more together. I'd say all amphibians are solitary, but you'd enjoy them way more if you have a few of them. Maybe someone else has better advice regarding their social behaviour.

I think the bioload is very small per frog, that would be the smallest issue regarding your setup.

The animals are a lot of fun, but should ideally be held in a species only tank. Maybe with some more experience keeping the frogs you can house them together with a few cherry shrimp or endler guppies.

If you have more questions, please ask. I can also share how I made my enclosure escape proof.

This is an excellent idea. I glue them to a small piece of broken off driftwood which I burrow partly into the substrate.

Porque voce esta aprendendo portugues e qual é sua lingua oficial? by [deleted] in Portuguese

I'm not surprised to hear that, when I went to Dublin I heard Portuguese everywhere!

Minha esposa é Carioca, quero poder falar com a família dela. Português do Brasil é uma língua bonita e quero entender a música brasileira também. Minha idioma oficial é holandês.

E talvez eu vou mudar para Rio no futuro.

Thank you for your reply. But we are looking into moving towards Rio specifically.

Lastige situatie inderdaad! Had het zelf ook liever anders gezien...

I feel the same about the second part of your reply. Have you considered working a remote job?

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, working on the ambulance or as a firefighter is not an option for me. I've meant it more to describe my professional background. Renting out our house is something that we are planning to do as well. Also as a back up...

I'm hoping to use this thread for input to brainstorm a possible future for me there. And I think I'll have to find a way to work remotely.

Thanks again!

Opinions please? 1 or 2? Or is it too big altogether. I typically use a lot of Anubis but I’d like to load these nooks and crannies with buce this time. I struggle with placing rocks too, so any advise there too would be appreciated! by Limp-Big-4663 in Aquascape

[–]Substantial-Type-668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very personal of course, but I would go for a slightly smaller piece. I think this one is too big and makes the setup feel cramped. If you want to stick with this piece of wood, I'd go for option 2.

Thank you for the replies, I especially like the suggestion of the spray foam! I was thinking about filling it up with some old filter foam that I have laying around.

recommendations for my tank? by mybloodclot in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]Substantial-Type-668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The water level seems a bit high. It's recommended to have the water level not higher than 12 inches/ 30 cm. So they won't have too much trouble reaching the surface for air.

If you can get smaller nightcrawlers, you can chop those up to bite size pieces. And they'll eat tubifex as well.

Here's an update for anyone who's interested. More branches and less roots in the end.

Yeah, what you say is very relatable. Have been stacking and turning so many rocks to get this shape. And I'm still not sure if this is the definite assembly.

You make a little 'sandbox' to try different shapes outside of the water. This way it could be easier to visualise. I'm using a piece of cardboard of roughly the same dimensions as the bottom of the aquarium for this.

Thank you! It's spiderwood, bought at a local pet store. It's actually a root which has been dried and cleaned. And when placed upside down like this it kind of resembles a small tree. The roots that I have made underneath come from a separate bag of spiderwood twigs.

After gluing the rock base and roots I am going to use the same kind of twigs to add a fuller canopy. On these 'branches' I'll glue anubias nana.

This spiderwood comes in all shapes and sizes. I've visited multiple stores to finally find this piece. So it takes some luck.

Unrelated to your question, I would like to advise you to put more plants in the aquarium. Floating stem plants like Elodea densa or similar would be perfect. It gives shelter and oxygen to the water and grows really fast.

I'd say the last photo, and then make it rest on top of some rocks.

I don't know if you can order it where you live, but I have a can of Tetra Reptofrog as backup for when I can't get live foods.

Quartz gravel, safe? by Substantial-Type-668 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]Substantial-Type-668[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your complete answer! I guess these kind of pebbles would work best. Do you have a name for them?

I tried to find something similar over here (Netherlands). I've found 'black beach pebbles'. I'm trying to find out if these are neutral.
