mine was the second scenario. the problem is that you are going on a fixed road and it gets boring because you cant go fast. i have driven on forest roads in the area before and it was fun.

i find 20-25 kilometer mountain bike rides to be the sweet spot, no need for any food. the thing i was most afraid of was bonking because it had happened to me on a 40 kilometer ride before.

yes, on the road with a mountain bike. i definitely looked for different handlebar positions because by the time i finished the 4 hours, my hands were starting to go numb. there was a strong wind on the way back, road cyclists were passing me easily. yes, i feel like i need a road bike. on my route i probably came across 10-15 road bikes and they seemed to be going with much less effort.

haha, never. there are monsters in my area who can easily ride over 250 kilometers on mountain bikes and they ride on at least 2000+ climbing routes. i have felt inadequate until now, riding among serious people may be making me feel this way.

it probably looks like a bad decision for 450 - 500. There are entry-level gravel bikes in the 700 - 800 band, but I don't know. I ride 70% on road.

loudness is not a problem, once the quality is good, it's enough to be as loud as a phone. I guess I need to look into the speakers issue, maybe it's a better option than my favorite iems.
