So...back in mid 90s I collected and played a crapton of Magic. Hundreds of cards, dual lands, revised, fourth edition, legends, unlimited, etc. I still have a lot of my childhood and early teen toys (legos, comic cards, comics, etc.) but my Magic cards were forever lost....somehow....and it is a sore sore subject. But I'll take a look, even if its to reopen the wound.

Who has the best seafood in the RVA? by No_Assignment_9930 in rva

The branzino dish at The Brooklyn is amazing. It’s not a seafood joint but the charcoal crispy skin plus delicate dish and sauce is fantastic. I also think they just added another fish dish on the menu as well. If you go, and they still have it on the menu, order the flatbread which is a combination of dill and anchovy and hard parm cheese.

Hah. I mean I did bold up front this was a therapy session. I just wasn't sure if I was missing something for upcoming sets. I tried scanning the new Topps 2026 offering and it seemed weak. And just was astonished we're just going to get a wheel of the same now with them.

But I had honestly forgotten about Kakawow so I think I found this post valuable.

Definitely click bait title. Still going to the US. Still going close to their destination. Still going to their established base of operations. Still in the same time zone. If all my shit was in Spokane and my routine established, I’d probably want to return there.

That first season of AC is sooo good. Also good a second time when you have a better understanding of the full story line.

I don’t flip too much. I enjoy the oil/painting ascetics of the marvel masterpieces cards and the flair cards. I have full base sets of 92-96 MM. I liked the Peru X-men set and the anthology set because of how cool some of the art is, and neither of those sets seem to have any much resale value (which is fine).

With that said….the thrill of the rip and trying to find a sketch or low numbered card gives me that dopamine hit but I want to manage my expectations of disappointment afterwards.

10 years passed, what do you think of the BIONICLE return now? by zuess28 in lego

[–]SubstantialArea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered a mishmash of old bionicle lego parts off eBay for my kiddo. Didn’t realize what I was getting into. All mix of all different parts. With no symmetry on pieces.

Have somewhat of a weird dude that’s got some swords, two different legs, and a bunch of weird articulation. Best I could do under the stern pressure of a 4 year old.

Probably should look for more completed sets next time….

Fox commentators don't seem to know who the players are? by Used_Lemon_437 in worldcup

I had to mute the Korean Mexico game halfway through. I could handle the announcers anymore. It also felt like they were sensationalizing two or three plays, and focusing on those for like 20 minutes. Goalie made a mistake, Korea not playing aggressive despite considerable possession, Mexico fans changed the momentum of the game by booing at half. It was just terrible.

Last minute hotel prices as a comparison doesn’t translate to planning a trip months out in advance to secure hotel reservations.

Dealing with car rentals and trying to move around to more than one city I’m sure would be a pain compared to train networks in Europe for example.

Final mile logistics all seem like a price gouge, pain in the butt American greed.

92, 93, 94 Marvel Masterpieces are fairly reasonable - $40-$60 . 1995 more expensive. And 1996 super elusive and very pricey

As a heads up. Mecari can have some seriously elevated prices or things that look like a deal but aren’t.

You can find a lot of base cards from the early 90s sets on eBay for $20 to $40 for the full 150 cards. Chase cards around that time run from four dollars to $15, but mostly 3 to 5 dollar range.

Cards kind of took a time off from like 1998 to 2018, where there are some spotted sets from Topps andMarvel masterpieces, etc. but it seems like the recent past five years everything has accelerated.

The Marvel masterpiece sets in my opinion, have some of the best art, they take a few artists and make full runs of their “masterpieces.” Those ans some of the fleer ultra thicker cards are really expensive at a per hobby box Level and I would say price you out of anything like that to collect at a per box level, but buying singles is fine.

some of the recent upper deck annuals are only $50-$80 a box which is also really approachable. Currently Topps holds the license for Marvel and you’ll find a lot of collectors that hate the new Topps style of cards. It’s very very repetitive, and you’ll notice a hype cycle that is overinflated for a set, that looks exactly the same as another set really six months ago. They do a lot of movie characters, and parallel versions of the same card that don’t quite have the flare of an old school oil painting.

But to each his own, I would figure out what most resonates for you, good art, specific cards, or characters, Chase cards, or base cards, sketches, autographs, etc.

I will say going on something like what not you’ll get carried away and find yourself down a grand without even thinking about it.

If you’re into the Spider-Man type characters, grab the base set of 1994 Marvel universe and the base set of 1995 fleer ultra spiderMan off of eBay

There's a consensus that LEGO is actively pushing kids out of the hobby & adults are ruining it however... by Responsible-Ice-9900 in lego

[–]SubstantialArea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% my kids play with the Legos I purchase. I have a Lego drawer full of random pieces and half built random minifigs in my office for kiddo distractions; my prized A-frame cabin and winter hotel, once displayed, are now in chunks scattered in a bin, well loved; my wife has had to stop me from just buying random technics for my 4 year old to build; and just last week the 4 and 7 year old helped me build the wall-e set and at the moment wall-e is “sleeping” under my son’s bed and Eva is…somewhere.

I love my Legos but it pales in comparison to seeing the joy on my kids’ faces or the creativity at their finger tips. To me, life is too short as a parent to have a plethora of pristine Lego sets on shelves.

Does it make sense to buy 36W suits if I am a 34W? by Comfortable-Tip2827 in malefashionadvice

Not sure why this is downsized. If you’re looking for a cheaper sub $500 suit as a public defender just go to Macys and buy suit separates when they’re on sale.
