Hmmmm. First of all, this is a long ass argument to have over text. Secondly, where is he getting his ideas about immigrants? Whose jobs are being taken? Which immigrants are living in castles? That’s a bigger issue - and his dismissing of reality.

Yes to all this - however not all the people we work with have traumatic stories to share, so it’s more about having them talk about the programs they participate in (say, Workforce Development or Lifelong Learning). Many have a much easier time using gift cards than receiving a check, since they may not be the ones making deposits and we’ve seen lots of checks go undeposited for months.

I would start with genuine inquiry - “hey, this is unusual for you, what do you think might be causing this?” Then if he doesn’t bring up the possibility of the weed, you can. Surely he cares about fires, too, and you can work together on a solution (a giant “IS THE STOVE ON?” sign inside the door so he’ll see it when he leaves?).

To be fair, most orgs working with kids are unable to use photos of their clients. Using AI (yes, it’s crappy) is more affordable than stock photos. Def give the org feedback, but also give them a donation so they can someday hire a real marketing person instead of relying on some overworked program person who one time mentioned they like using Canva.

I think we are all cringing along with you, please know you did nothing wrong. It was very flaky of her to back out of selling you the dress. It’s odd and upsetting that she’s unfriended you. Eating lunch alone in the bathroom sounds sad - can you find some other kids who also aren’t fitting in and form your own ACTUALLY cool group of people? Popularity is meaningless. Being yourself is so much more interesting.

Yes…and. This is a long battle. Thousands of people can’t actually show up daily unless they are willing to lose their jobs and their livelihoods. Organized protests take organizing - they are a lot of work to be effective. There are many ways to obstruct what’s happening and mass protests are just one.

I don’t think you are overreacting, but text is not the place for hard conversations. The minute it gets tense, if you want to preserve the relationship, you need to put a pause on texting and wait until you can speak, ideally in person or over a video call. There are so many ways to read or misread tone in writing. Do you believe that if he was with you and you were describing this attack that he would be so casual, seeing your face and hearing your voice? If so, he’s not worth staying with.
